Question about Raw meat

So i have my hatchet my knife and my matches but once i kill an animal and "Gut" it the screen says i sould get x ammount of meat well... its not there i can't open the animals bodies to gather it is this a known bug or is my game just fucked?

I've never had this issue. I've had a similar issue where the option to take the meat has been delayed but never completely inaccessible.

Get wood. Kill animal. Gut animal. Go to gear on animal. Take meat. Make fireplace. Cook goods.

@ OP: I had that happen to me, too. But only once. it was on uneven terrain so i guessed it maybe disappeared through the ground because it never happened on even surface.
