Some clarification on server rules. (for admins.)

Recommended Posts

So.

Our server, like many others, is plagued by the disconnecting army.

now, I know its regarded an exploit and we CAN ban for it, but my question is, how sure do we have to be? its not something thats easy to do. you get in combat.. he vanishes.. you look @ player list and his name is not there. OR he is reconnecting.

so unless you get a guaranteed kill (and are able to study the body) you have no proof. now lets say this chap then relogs. and you finally DO get him.. just because he is nearby, is that proof enough that he IS that server hopper or?

What I mean is, how much reasonable proof does a server admin need in order to be able to police their own servers? because short of experiencing it themselves and killing him, and even then they would cry 'wahh i killed an admin so he banned me'

trawling through logs is an unreasonable request as I'm sure you are aware. there is simply too many lines output. It would take around 40-60 mins to track down each hopper.

So, what are good server hosts to do? we want to police our servers and make a great community for our players, but we are somewhat bound by a very rigid rulesheet.

are there plans to address this?

From what I've read from a few other server admins, you actually can't ban for D/Cing. (Noticed Ravin mentioned it in his Farming thread.)

Quote from the server rules sticky.

- Their are only two reasons why you, as a server owner, should ban a player on your server. Those two reasons are: Malicious talk, and racism. You may not ban a user for stealing your loot, killing you, spying on you, etc.

the only way to know imo is if is a regular server and you see their name before they disappear. Otherwise you risk punishing an innocent player
