In the mod yes it is very possible to retrieve your body just remember it only stays until it's hidden or the server restarts...

 

In the standalone it seems like the body disappears when you click respawn...  So if you want to get your things off your corpse have a friend get the things before respawning. 

 

 

You can drag bodies. Not sure if only unconscious bodies though.

 

You can drag unconscious players but not bodies of dead players...

Can anyone supply a factual answer to the question: How long will a freshly killed players body remain in game (looted or not) before it despawns?

30 mins? Speculated? What is the ACTUAL figure? Where can I get the exact figure for a fact?

 

It should remain until the next server restart. Server restarts vary from server to server. Usually take place every four to six hours.

 

A player can hide the corpse, in which case it will not be available to anyone.
