NW Airfield...

Recommended Posts

So i've been playing a few days now, and i've gotten 3 other friends to play Dayz with me. We logged out in Mogilevka last night heading north.

What i'm curious about is that is it worth it for us to go to the NW Airfield? I figure it's probably a bandit filled haven, but we also need some better weapons. (we're all basically equipped with at least a melee weapon and pistol, 2 of us have primary weapons)

Is there any tips for that place? Just don't want us going there just to get picked off in 10 seconds by the sniper armada.

Mostly filled with server hopper scum.

Killed 2 in a matter of 5 minutes at the southern barracks on our US171 server. We're going to start posting people near them just to kill hoppers.

IMO don't go there till you have at least some fire power as you will more than likely just get killed by people with better firepower.

Raid deerstands and farms till you all have decent ranged firepower, then go to NW airfield and use cover and observation to increase your survival chances.

NW airfield can be good but it can also turn into a massive waste of time if you are unlucky

server hoppers are the #1 best way to get loot up there. headshot them when they're loading and grab all the goodies they've gotten by hopping

Where do these server hoppers usually spawn at? Haven't been over there yet, so I am guessing the high yield buildings located here?

I like to try to be prepared before going into the unknown, and of course i'm going to scope it out before I head anywhere in it's vicinity.

Don't go there until you are geared up, have established a camp, and can live off the land. You also need to be aware of what's there. Both the NWAF and SS are death traps and if you are not familiar with the terrain you will be killed.

You can be pretty stealthy and sneak up on the southern or northern barracks through the tree line but it is still a death trap. I recommend you hit as many deer stands as possible instead. NWAF have way too much hype.

I have alot of standard surviving equipment (map, gps, compass, watch, water canister, knife, matches, hatchet) so living off the land isn't much of a problem (haven't found a tent yet though), and we were planning on passing by the military tents setup in Stary Sober (since the last time I was there, there were at least 3 different guns with ammo) in order to be prepared.

I'm probably going to check with the other guys and see if we want to test it, scope it out really nicely, spread out, and sneak in, OR just junk the idea and head northeast after Sober, hitting deer stands and making our way to the airstrip in the northeast.

Main goal atm is getting nice weapons and possibly a vehicle. Already looted the crap out of Elektro, so we're good on medical supplies and basic essentials.

Went there twice today. Both times I killed someone there. One guy was not responding to what I was saying so I shot him to be safe. The other was camping in the building and he had shot two people already. Managed to shoot him through a window.

Didn't find anything special. But I did take the M4A3 CCO and A550 of the camper.

My advice would to have someone with long range and another with a silenced weapon. Zombies are very present within the air fields and you need to be able to take them out quietly.

Only thing worth doing at the NWAF is to run up and down the runway with a super flare playing Partyboy over direct comm. ;3

Well we found some good weapons (3 shotguns, only 1 rifle) at the tents in Stary Sober. Afterwards we headed north until we were directly east from the airfield across the road going around it in the forest.

Sadly, we didn't go in. Mainly because when I opened my map, I counted 11 orange man dots at the buildings right southeast next to the most southern hanger here: http://dayzdb.com/map#6.049.054 Not wanting to chance death, we stayed in the forest, turned around, and booked it to Devils Castle, which was empty cept for the few common zeds.

I can only guess it was a group/guild/clan/squad/whatever that would have shot us on sight, no questions asked. With only a 4 man (5 man pending) team, the odds were highly stacked against us. Might try at some other time.

I think the markers are heavily bugged. I find it hard to believe that eleven people would be there, but again, never say never.

my suggestions are

find 1 cz550, and atleast 1 fullauto weapon and atleast 2 m1911's

position the guy with the cz550 on an overwatch position.

then have 1 guy with 1911 take point leading you to loot then have the other 1911 and the fullauto following the guy on point.

if anyone dies then it will be the guy on point with the 1911 if this happens replace him with the other 1911 guy not the full auto as he will help kill zeds and bandits.

PS: might wanna go KoS stratedgy never can be too careful.

Just go man. But get some automatics first in case you have to return fire. It's a snipers haven to be honest, as well as a hoppers haven, but if you never go and are scared, you'll never learn from your mistakes and you're not really playing the game the way it should be played. You're going to die. You're going to get pissed and rage quit, but you know what? 20m later you're going to say "You know what, screw it. Shit happens. Let's do this again." and you'll log back in. It's a cold, frustrating world out there, but unless you take the risk, you'll never see a reward. If you want the best military items, the only place to go is NWAF, minus chopper crashes. The Southern and Northern barracks are the best loot locations there, and also the most dangerous because snipers tend to watch them heavily if they are present. Also, hoppers tend to spawn in one of the back rooms, so be on your guard. You'll have a shot window of about 2-3 seconds while they load in that you can drop them without even being fired upon. You'll see "So and so was killed by so and so(Friendly Fire)" if you kill them while spawning, which means nothing. You just won't get a murder because they weren't registered as being fully in-game yet. They're still plenty dead. ;)

I made it from Cherno up to the field last night..only my third visit in two months. I was ping kicked when in the treeline near the southern barracks, then made it back in on another server, managed to crouch about 5 feet and was kicked again. my last attempt, different server again, i made to the outside back of the barracks and was kicked again so i decided on waiting until tonight to try again ..man am i taking my chances when i log in tonight :D

Weird thing is first time i made it all the wya up to the barracks, i could not pick up an M16 on the ground but i could pick up random other stuff. I dropped my AKM to swap it for the M16 , AKM disappeared and it refused to let me pick up the M16. Luckily i had an M14 in my backpack so i left and headed for the hangars, Found an AK74S that i could not pick up either. I left the server (BRA2 vet i think) and when i respawned at one of the US expert servers i was back at Vysota, obviously there were some major desyncing issues or whatever but at least i had my AKM and M14 on respawn..made the journey back and then the whole ping kick issues started.

Hoping for a better night tonight.

join an empty server, get what you need, rejoin full servers.

I got on last night to find my friends on a very low populated server (2 not including them), so getting a lucky break we all met up in elektro, raided the loots there, then headed north. Even though it was dark, it was pretty fun, for this was the first time I had actually played with it at night.

We got to the airfield as the server reached 4AM server time, so there were now 8 others in the game with it getting brighter in the morning. Scouted it out from the southern barracks, and we went for it. Sadly the loot was just fair. Only unique thing we found was one of those assault rifles with attached grenade launcher (and alot of AKM ammo for me).

I got a question though. Is it easier to find vehicles up north? Gonna take a while to head back south, so we were searching for a vehicle with no luck before I logged.

If you are going to loot the north barracks make sure you get a sniper in the eastern treeline, make sure that sniper finds and eliminates any other sniper in the eastern treeline.

Have someone stay hidden in the woods behind the barracks watching the door as someone loot cycles, also have someone watch the back road (the area beind the barrack woods). That should cover your bases.

If you are looting the south barracks (safer from snipers but very close quaters) have squad mates covering all corners of the compound from hidden positions while someone loot cycles.

The loot cycler should take it slow and be aware that at any point a scumbag hopper could appear in any of the rooms, if possible have an overwatch with a view of the windows to watch for anyone inside the building that isn't the cycler.

Most server with less than 10 people in it are guaranteed for people with the same idea. I'd say its higher risk to do that, than to go to a semi-full night server.

The best tip I can give is: scout the area first. Zombies are only spawned near people, so look at every building first and see if there are zombies walking in a wide area. You can usually tell by the way the zombies are far away from eachother or really close together, for how long that person has been looting there. But beware that you will spawn zombies aswell, unless you go from the south part and walk straight towards the runway or more to the west side of the airfield.

As I just said, we caught a lucky break with a low pop. server, and the NW Airfield was empty (cept for the few dozen zeds). We were still very cautious of course. Scopped it out with bino's from multiple spots as we made our way from southern barracks around to the most southern hanger. Checked map multiple times, no man indicator around cept us, and had our buddy with the only scopped gun chill and keep watch as we gathered ammo and supplies for him + ourselves.

I feel we would have had trouble if this was on one of our usual servers, since last time we were on one of those, we actually killed a server hopper (or he was logging in, but horrible place to log IMO). It was the fire station slightly north in the back of elektro next to the smokestack. We were looting it and getting ready to head when I looked to my right at the wall inbetween the back door and the 3 front doors. There was some random, so I said "Is that any of you?". Then his name came up, and it obviously wasn't one of us. With an AK in his hand, I lite him up with my Winchester. Amazingly enough, he respawned right in the exact same spot, which freaked us out even more, so we lite him up again. We waited for a minute to make sure before looting, which of course, he was decked out (first GPS I had ever picked up).

Looting on a low pop server is more risky as server hoppers favor empty servers.

I think Both the NW and NE air field are not worth going to. Just like Server hoppers looking for quick loot you also have Server Hopping Snipers looking for easy kills. You can scout it all you want, but it wont matter when you never see the guy spawn in when you think its safe to move.

If your hanging around the central section of the map and the server restarts start legging it around to find downed choppers, much better loot than the airfield. Even better if its night and the server is quiet, if you have a good monitor (or 2 for a loot map) just turn up your brightness and gamma and you will see for miles (this need to be fixed, night is way too bright now and nvg are obsolete) the chopper stand out like dogs balls just look for the fires burning but make sure you not running up on a camp fire. An old push bike is a great tool for doing this, almost silent and hell fast, if the bike takes damage just get off and back on again and usually it will be repaired. Found 3 last night 10 mins after restart,

Bizon PP-19 SD

FN FAL AN/PVS-4

M4A1 CCO + 16 clips!

AS50 only one clip :(

M107 3 clips

MP5SD6 6 clips

And the list goes on, 4 guys geared up in no time, boxes of medical supplies are common as well.
