Why u no punch?

The first weapon issue is a real dilemma

but this is onyl because u can't even use YOUR BARE FISTS

honestly if a zombie would come too close or there would be no way to run

I would HIT THIS Mafukka right IN THE FACE

but not stand there like "oh a zombie is trying to eat me and I have no weapon? guess i just stand here with no movement"

so this is realistic?

There's no melee combat system in Arma 2, and it'd be way too complicated to have to program one in. And yes, I know, there's a hatchet and crowbar; those are kinda jury-rigged in. From what I understand, they're basically "guns" that fire "bullets" which only travel about 5 feet.

You seem to be a little frantic about this, though there are reasons for it.

To begin with you have your typical 'Y no start wepon' discussion, its been filtered through probably a good hundred or so threads now, the general response being man up.. along with some relation to a FPS game in the form of an insult. Now everyone has their right to an opinion on this game as a 'consumer' and tester, though I'm sorry to say that no matter what the argument is the situation probably isn't going to change.. There will never be a starting weapon, it's YOUR dilemma, not the games.

Now you are right, its only a problem because without one you cannot defend yourself, with your fists at least, which is the suggestion you have used. Once again this isn't the first time this has been brought up, but a lot of people seem to be trying to relate to maybe the slower more popular 'Walking dead' zombies which the cast beat up on a regular occasion to escape. These 'infected' have been driven to primal functions and as far as the current infected state is [Whether this will be changed in the future or not] Is that they have no problems with stamina, nor power. In this currently admittedly buggy stage in the mod these zombies can knock you unconcious with their bare hands, break your legs.. And otherwise butcher you in seconds.. They're stronger, faster and more able than you are, so even if you COULD throw a punch or nudge one away, they could easily overpower you.

Of course we can't forget the obvious inability to include close quarters mechanics from scratch, though that response would be too simple and easy~

And that's how it is right now, friend

and yea "dead brains" are more powerful than living humans imo the only 2 advantages of them should be: only headshots harm them and that they have the majority and can easily outnumber u

if it's not possible to integrate close combat because of the engine I understand,

but why aren't then ur fists "guns" with "bullets" which travel 1m?...

Someone doesn't read, nor knows of the small lore in the game.

These people are not Zombies, they are not 'dead' They are living infected human beings.

They sprint like roadrunners, punch without mercy and are a living entity of rage and hunger.

Though this is what I said before, you just chose not to listen.

This guy sounds pretty young. I don't think you're going to get any constructive feedback from him unless you outright fanboy his idea.

Rocket wants the game to be hard. By giving you a weapon to start off with, he makes the game easier. It's the opposite of what he is trying to go for.

so im dying laughing here, from not only the thread title, but the idea of punching zombies in the face. when suddenly... IDEA!

why don't we start with a CROWBAR!? (melee system isn't in arma 2, unless you make it like the hatchet and crowbar, in which your fists are weapons [lol reloading your hands], and they have the same range as hatchet and crowbar. [5 feet, aparrently.]) it would be a genius idea! no guns to pvp with, unless really close, and crowbar takes 2-3 hits to kill a zombie! so, why not have it take like 5-8 hits to kill a survivor, eh?

Punching is too difficult to implement.... just give players a Crowbar on spawn - it's pretty much a useless weapon anyway since it doesn't kill in 1 shot like the hatchet.

From what I've read it has the same damage as the M9 pistol - so 4-5 body shots.... 4-5 shots at the zombie as it noms on your arm.

One of the benefits of making newly spawned player defenceless was it decreased the rampant PvP on the coast - crowbars are definitively not useful for PvP so starting players off with one would not reverse that change.

Another positive side-effect is we could nickname the Crowbar "The Bone Breaker", since we'd see a large number of newly spawned player crawling around smacking zombies because the zombies keep breaking their legs due to the suicidally useless nature of the Crowbar :D
