The Last Straw! - "Connecting failed"

Recommended Posts

I'm on my 4th time reinstalling ArmA 2: CO because no matter what I seem to do I cannot get DayZ to work. I've followed guides, tried SixUpdater/Launcher and done it manually. No matter what I do, I ALWAYS get the exact same error:

"Connecting failed."

All the servers have the yellow question mark icon and no matter which one I join, they all tell me this. I'm absolutely sick of reinstalling this game over and over because it takes 3-4 hours to complete the install just to start over from square one.

SO...

I've decided that I'm going to leave the installation to the professionals. I'm currently in the middle of a clean reinstall of both Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead. Once they have finished installing, I will not do a SINGLE DAMN THING unless otherwise instructed by either a member of the DayZ Dev Team or the DayZ Forum Team. I realize that they are probably busy people and resorting to this method will most likely take a long time but at this point, I don't even care. I've tried my absolute best, but I simply cannot get it to work and if I have to do one more reinstall of Arma, I am going to chew up my computer and swallow it whole.

My copy of Arma 2: CO is a Steam copy and I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, if that means anything.

I will post here again once both Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead have finished installing to inquire as to what the FIRST STEP to installing DayZ should be. I intend to take this BIT by BIT to prevent any and all screw-ups this time around.

Alrighty, we're halfway there. Arma 2 just finished installing via Steam but I'm not even gonna TOUCH it yet. Now I'm onto installing Operation Arrowhead...

Hi, connecting failed should usually indicate issues with the connections either because there's a local firewall blocking it, or there's an issue with the modem/router or route to the server.

The arma2oa RPT file could have some clues; http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/RPT

Is the RPT file something I can open up and look at to understand the problem or is it something I should attach here for someone more experienced to look at?

Both, though the messages can be somewhat cryptic ;-)

Ah, well then I'll be sure to upload it once Operation Arrowhead finishes installing and when the error comes up again (which I'm certain it will).

It finished downloading and there was a small difference this time around and its that some of the server icons are now green instead of all of them being yellow question marks. I still couldn't connect to them though.

"Connecting failed."

Here's the RPT file. Perhaps you can find out why this is happening because I took a peek in that thing and couldn't make heads or tails of it.

So uh... anything?

Its worth mentioning that when I use SixLauncher to start up the game, if I choose "Launch", I get the same "Connecting failed" error but when I try to join a server via SixLauncher, it starts up the game and the screen goes black and says "Wait for host" and freezes like that. It never loads.

Had this same issue, the .rpt file had some corrupted files at the bottom, either we missed a patch or somethings corrupted our files.

most aus servers i couldnt get into, some foreign ones worked.

downloaded 6updater, worked straight away.

I hate when someone says he fixed his issue, but doesn't bother to say how he did it. :<

A lot of people are getting this issue when connecting to my server, for some reason.

Oh shit, my bad, fellas. I'm gonna necro this thread just to let you guys know that the problem was with my router. I needed to open my ports.

After that, it worked fine.
