Flipfighter 0 Posted July 8, 2012 So essentially im currently playing this game on an optiplex 745, (I know i need to upgrade but waiting until holiday deals) with a radeon hd 4650 graphics card and 8 gbs of ddr 2 ram. Now a friend of mine has the same exact computer, minus the graphics card. I can run the game at a decent rate about normal to high and im fine with that until i eventually upgrade.Im trying to get a friend into the game but he refuses to invest in his in the computer. So maybe an alternative? He also owns a laptop, more specifically a sony vaio that is an AMD turion II 2.5 ghz with 8 gbs of ram. I was wondering if he would be able to run this game with that laptop? Im pretty sure not, but worth a try and maybe you amazing people out there know of a way. If not, well have to wait until end of the year when we both upgrade comps. thanks in advance
thewanderer 16 Posted July 8, 2012 Arma2 system specs are not that amazing so it will run on "some" low end set ups; just dont expect to get great graphics.you can get the game at the moment for the price of a quiet night out so just get it. its well worth it to have already even if you wait on an upgrade. Flipfighter 0 Posted July 8, 2012 yeah i totally agree. really great game, not just for the mod, but campaign and everything as well. Hopefully I find a way to convince him just to at least invest a decent graphics card until then, but i guess its looking more like later in the year unfortunately. cmndr_andi 0 Posted July 8, 2012 The laptop (depending on the graphics chip chip it uses) may technically be able to "run" the game (turn all the graphics to lowest, drop resolution), but I'd say it isn't the best way to introduce someone to this very unforgiving game/mod. Therefore, I would recommend sticking with the desktop and doing a small graphics card upgrade to it - which will allow him to run it much better. Is that a core 2 Duo Optiplex 745 he is running? If so, then buying a cheap, relatively high-performing second-hand graphics card like a HD 4670, 8800GT, 9800GT, GTS 250, HD 4850 would only cost him ~$40 *though he may also need a PSU upgrade, depending what the PC currently has) and allow him to play DayZ/ARMA2 pretty well and will also allow him to run most other recent PC games pretty well too.If the PSU is pretty low end (~300W) then he could instead consider upgrading to a cutting edge low-power usage gaming graphics card like the HD 7750. It is more expensive than the other graphics cards I mentioned, but it means he won't need a PSU upgrade, comes with full warranty and performs a bit better overall.
