I can't pitch a tent :(

I'm not sure why but no matter where i try to place a tent it says the area must be flat and clear of items or whatever. I swear it wont work for me even on the flattest ground(not even roads). I've only had this game for two days but i've gotten the hang of getting all the survival gear i need(military weapons medical gear all that good stuff). But without being able to set u a tent I wont be able to teke this game to the next level.

Tent placement requires extra effort.

Lying down, with the gear menu, slowly move side to side, up and down(slowly), and hammer the pitch tent option until it takes.
