People aren't as coldblooded as you think.

Upon researching DayZ before my inevitable purchase, I read plenty of forum posts concerning the blatant KoS policy that most players have adopted. As I avoid the 50 player servers, maybe I have spared myself from a hectic PvP experience, though I have had my share of close encounters.

Most players I have encountered so far either want nothing to do with me, or will shout "Friendly!" and declare their honest intentions. I've met several people who have traded with me, given me items, or have just been helpful in general. That being said, I have a dirty confession to make.

I killed two men outside of Stary Sabor.

As I approached a deer stand from the woods, I noticed a coyote backpack sitting just beyond my reach. I would not be deterred from this fortunate find, yet as I sneaked into position I noticed two players approaching through the open field. Despite several verbal warnings they continued to approach, as one peeled off to my flank and continued out of sight. Eventually I was forced to shoot one player in the face as he was looking at me with binoculars and retreated through the woods to kill his friend several minutes later.

Wheres the love people? If you continue to advance despite my friendly intentions, is it wrong to open fire?

It's just a vocal minority that grabs their Venezuelas and climbs the highest mountain to bellow their contempt for life itself until sunset every time they die or stub their toe or whatever. They never grew out of that mindset that an adequate level of complaining will eventually get someone else to do what you want for you.

They might have just been newbies with no idea what was going on, but more than likely you saved your own hide by pulling the trigger first. I always endeavour to communicate with others first, but I've made the mistake before of letting someone advance while ignoring my hails and have been shot in the face for my troubles.

You could try just running away if that would rest easier on your conscience, but I think you were justified in killing the two of them.

One time, some guy was watching me loot a supermarket unbeknownst to me, and I was talking over side-chat as I usually did. After I left, some guy asked me if I was in the NE...

I said I was, and he said he saw me looting that supermarket.

Since he didn't shoot me, I met up with him nearby and gave him a blood transfusion as a thanks for not killing me

If you yell someone to stop approaching your position and they ignore you then yes, you shoot them. And I don't consider that murder. It's self defence.

As for not finding most people to be the types you have read about I can contest to that. I am careful and cautious, but on the whole I find most people who I talk to are decent people.

Though it is worth mentioning I will only talk and socialise with someone if certain conditions are all met. Those are the rules I travel by and they serve me well.

I don't for instance try and strike up a convo with a group of heavily armed guys who are coming out of a town that I just heard gunfire from lol :)

You do realize tho that you need to be somewhat close to hear said verbal warning, right? :P I try to keep my encounters on a certain distance, and have my mate cover my back. why? the bare looks of a coyote bp makes you look like that giant walking sandwich to a half starved wanderer in the desert.

Yes, you will find that we get GTA IV morons and people who leave morals out of the game, aka people who kill innocents on Asassins Creed Revolations "ISAH JAWST A GAMEZ BROZ" And people who know nothing about the game, most people dont even know what takistan is, yes most are KOS even if they dont have good loot, My honest advice is (if any of you people care) "Do onto others as you would do onto yourself" (if anyone here can remember this quote they get the I am not a moron badge) even if its a game, think about it, a random 14 year old (hopefully one of the intelligent ones) just spent a day getting gear (and all you people who go ITSHK HAWST PIXCKAWLS, go learn how things work, how did those pixels get there? WHOS A PIXEL? GAHHHHHHHHHHHH)

anyways.. think about it..

wow! ranting and venting is fun! I FEEL LIKE A UNICORN NOW :D :D

What I am saying is, I met someone in belota medical tents, I was out of ammo and everything, I yelled hey I am friendly! because I thought he was shooting at me, realizing I started shouting out positions of zombies, and I eventually ran in to one of the deer stands, a while later he GOT UP THE LADDER AND WAS STARING AT ME.. he gave me some spare ammo and I thanked him and did the same, then we helped each other out to cherno and met with his brother, we where flared and fragged eventually and we didnt die, was funny because of all the gun fire going around.. markovs czs dmrs m14s m4a1s ak47s ak74s akms... revolvers all kinds of stuff.. and my group was watching the possibly enemy snipers on the roof of the clock tower in cherno, we became friends and I got his steam name and his brothers, his brother as I found out was telling him at belota to shoot me because almost all players are morons who KOS.... I know how you feel guys, Not everyones a freak....

OP here.

Was just raiding the airfield barracks when with a friend when sudden gunfire erupted from two gentlemen waiting for someone to come along. As they had fully automatic weapons and ghillie suits, I didn't really see the point in them fragging us. Luckily they didn't see the frag grenade that I had stored away for a rainy day.

As I closed in for the kill they disconnected from the server.

Isn't the range of direct chat like 80m?

It's also worth remembering that nobody's a 1 trick pony. Personally, I role play a little - decide what kind of survivor I'm going to be when I start and stick to that settlement to the end. My latest character, who's on his 12th Day, currently sniping, was basically born from me going "I think next time I'm going to be the bad guy in everyone else's story."

I've had peacekeeper characters too who did what I could to diffuse conflicts with no deaths through deception and misdirection, like successfully implying that our band of 3 was closer to a band of 7 that 1 guy had just chest thumped against and walked him out of town.

What I'm saying is that DayZ isn't for people with thin skins and little imagination.

This.

I have played with many different 'classes' to keep the game fresh and give myself my own objectives.

That is an interesting way to approach the game and I think I will be adopting your style sir! As for my current character, I'm a lone wolf that shoots when cornered.
