Storage question: Dropped/Packs vs Tents

Greetings,

I am curious as if packs could be used for storage? Not as in carried on player but as dropped in a certain location to be used as like a smaller tent. I don't know the de-spawn time restraints of items on the ground dropped by players so I thought I'd ask.

So you have a tent setup. Sure it holds a crap load of gear, but its somewhat obvious. OR . . . Would you prefer 10 ALICE Packs scattered about and hidden within nooks and crannies? I'm thinking from a solo survivor aspect here as well. Why put all your eggs in one basket?

How long would the gear last unattended and does a server reset delete items in the tents and or the tents themselves.

I've though of doing that before, but I'm not sure of how long they stay etc..

I know tents are designed to stick around, but it's possible that the packs would stick around.

Problem is, you can only carry one pack at a time, so you would be packless until you found another.. you can't even put a smaller pack in a bigger pack, which would be cool as well.

Well you would hold onto your pack until you found another. It wouldn't make since to leave it.

For example, say you spawn near the hospital Cherno. You end up looting like 20 morphine. You know of locations for 2 coyote packs. You could then split that 20 into the two packs and spread the packs out throughout the outskirts of the town. That way you don't have to take that risk of high populated areas when starting.

Just an example, but you could make a personal stash etc. IF it works out.

If it was that close to any town, it would be found for sure.

It's still a good idea, but I was picturing going way out in the wilderness and dropping the pack where it would be somewhat safer.

Either way, it all depends on the answer to the despawning question.

I think bodies disappear in 5-10 min. Dunno about dropped loot.

Dead bodies stay for hours unless server restart or someone hid a body.

Packs are everywhere though, i find like 4 in a supermarket at a time, so they would all have to stay in there if we get rid of the despawn timer.

Tents serve their purpose, yeah there obvious but thats the price of storing equipment in them.
