tacticaljim 28 Posted July 7, 2012 Chesnarus is great and all but why not make a custom map that is more in tune with the zombie theam. Could have more municiple airports, schools that are set up a quarantine zones, working farms that players can inhabit and defend, radio systems, custom electrical grids that are repairable, CDC headquarters, larger lakes, rivers!, car dealerships, gun stores, the list goes on!PS This would also be the perfect opportunity to make all of the buildings enterable... keep_pabst_blue 0 Posted July 9, 2012 OP doesn't realise how much effort goes into creating a map. You're right. Developers of games should never do things that are hard.Actually I think what OP is suggesting would essentially be an entirely new game, or a full-price expansion pack. DayZ is a mod, not an expansion. You cannot possibly expect a single developer to create a 200+ square km map from scratch on his own. Seems to me this undertaking would take at least a year - I say let's focus on fixing the current game.

thedog88 180 Posted July 10, 2012 some of you guys must be new to arma *Condescending Wonka*if you guys look at some of the maps already released for arma you would see what the community is capable of. i will eat a broom and shit brixx if there is nobody working on a map already. i would actually put my paycheck on that. but it's do-able and i have seen single people make some of the most amazing maps for arma. not saying rocket should, just wait a bit and zombie maps will be around in no time^^
moofactory 62 Posted July 10, 2012 I see this happening in the future when it goes from mod to stand alone.

Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted July 10, 2012 Havent you guys watched rocket's Q&A at rezzed? he already said he wants to create a new map for DayZ's full releaseI really think people should go and watch Rockets interview at Rezzed. It addresses so many of the things that people are endlesly speculating about on here. I'm thinking of adding the link to any thread that asks questions he has already answered. doom4mr 135 Posted July 10, 2012 I think, for now there could be added towns etc. to cherno mapthere is a lot of empty fields in the game
Bental 10 Posted July 10, 2012 Personally, I dont know when Rocket would be planning a unique map, but as a mapper myself, it would take a long time. IMHO it would make more sense for him to get this game polished first before thinking about taking other people onboard to help with the project. My reason being as soon as other people become involved, they feel their opinion is more valid, and will sometimes attempt to throw their weight around to get a change to be made. This is just my thought and may be very wrong. Also, for a decent building to be made, modeled, built and textures (with working doors), it could easily take 50 hours to do, from beginning to completion, for your typical medium yeild house. Then it's not just making the building, it's making sure its scaled properly, fits in to the surroundings. Creating terrain isn't too bad, without looking at ARMA's editor I can't speculate too much though.
RIGHTLY 87 Posted July 10, 2012 I think Chesnarus suits the zombie theme. I mean, all the body bags, rotted corpses, military tents that make it look like the army tried to quarantine the Infection, trash and road blocks everywhere make it look perfect as it is. L0G!N 9 Posted July 10, 2012 Well i actually asked a question about this yesterday, and apparently the Mod should be able to run on any Arma Map, so Rocket could just change the map at say the 2.0.0 stage, to give every player a fresh experience where they don't automatically know where everything is.Two, i resently suggested running a forum competition to help Rocket (and ArmaII&III as well) get more assets for the game: By having fans create those assets, and entering the forum competition makes these assets publicly available. That way more assets are available for Rocket to use, while he doesn't have to have anyone involved in the actual game. He can pick what he likes. And the forum competition could just be about the best item created, without any promisses of implementation... Such a forum competition has all the benefits of a Community project, without all the negatives of people trying to force their opinion on the game and fight over art directions and gamemechanics and what not (the things that usually end a community project ;) ).And i think Rocket doesn't need one map for a release, he needs various maps, because as my thread somewhat revealed that if people know every corner of a map, the experience gets stale, there is no exploration left it's just a 'pick up that loot there, go here, then there', now go on the forum and ask for the game to be made harder... so having multiple maps would mean more gameplay... The expanses of countryside dotted with villages just really works for me. It's based on a real place. I honestly can't see them changing this map in the near future. When it's finally released as a stand-alone game I'm sure there will be loads more variation. For now it's basically a test bed for ideas and game mechanics.Well i actually asked a question about this yesterday' date=' and apparently the Mod should be able to run on any Arma Map, so Rocket could just change the map at say the 2.0.0 stage, to give every player a fresh experience where they don't automatically know where everything is.Two, i resently suggested running a forum competition to help Rocket (and ArmaII&III as well) get more assets for the game: By having fans create those assets, and entering the forum competition makes these assets publicly available. I think while they're testing it would make sense not to mess around with that side of it too much. Also, he's hinted at the idea of a persistent world with different islands which sounds amazing. It's not gonna happen any time soon though. Apparently the Arma 3 engine will be able to support maps MUCH larger (500 - 750km square) so the possibilities are pretty endless. The only thing we can be sure of is that the game is going to get much bigger and better.
