Day Z weapon damage numbers?

Recommended Posts

According to the info on DayZ DB, which seems to be ripped directly from the game code, the weapons which three-shot zombies are listed as doing 5 damage while the weapons that one-shot them are listed as doing 9. Does anyone know enough about how weapon damage is calculated to shed some light on this discrepancy or debunk these numbers if incorrect?

I've been trying to figure out some of the finer points of Day Z damage mechanics for quite a while now.

The 5 might actually be 4.6xx and the 9 might be 9.4xx, so the damage might be marginally too low to two-shot something.

That's about all I can come up with.

For the curious, the site developer responded to my question.

Damage numbers go into an exponential formula' date=' not linear. So those numbers still work, 5^2 + 5^2 = 50, 9^2 = 81. [/quote']

That makes a good amount of sense, actually. It also means the threshold for zombie death is somewhere in 64 < x < 75
