BaitedHook 24 Posted July 6, 2012 i just jumped into chernarus in normal arma 2 and i found i can see waaaaay far. (when i mean far i mean fucking far) when cranked to 10000 setting.why is dayz full of fog and stuff?
sisirk 4 Posted July 6, 2012 It is set like that (I assume) for balance and fair play to all players. Imagine someone with a topnotch machine and gpu, what settings they could use :) as opposed to someone on a budget setup. The guy with the big-rig would have a massive advantage. hkurban 31 Posted July 6, 2012 I've seen the fog level vary at random as with other weather patterns. I'll notice the sky get a few shades brighter and see that the fog has rolled in a bit.
BaitedHook 24 Posted July 6, 2012 yea but its unfair to limit guys with high end machines..... a guy with budget setup always have the potential to upgrade but if you lock down the setting everything is rigid and unflexible....try chernarus without the fog and tell me you dont want that. Blippy 26 Posted July 6, 2012 It goes both ways. Terrain detail is also locked, preventing players from completely removing grass. I've seen 15-20FPS increases from setting terrain detail from normal to low, but I can't in DayZ, so people with low-end machines need to take the performance hit for fairness. kissa3 1 Posted July 6, 2012 DayZ outright shits on players with high end machines. No matter what beast you got on your table, your fps is locked serverside. And it doesn't fucking care if the server side fps is 10.
BaitedHook 24 Posted July 6, 2012 damn :/ no wonder the game never seem to utilize my gpus to full potential.....
KWilt 157 Posted July 6, 2012 Really? Never noticed it locked at a kilo.Which is weird, because I can sometimes see Cherno from the edge of Electro. Especially if you're up on that ridge near the road.

Locking grass in this game is like locking TREES, or are you suggesting we should be able to get rid of trees for performance? If you have a bad PC, get a job and buy a new one. Or read a book and get a better job. It's that simple.

When graphics settings can provide a tactical advantage over one another (terrain detail, view distance), then a balance needs to be set so that everyone is on even footing, regardless of computer specs.
