Reshaping bullet damage

Recommended Posts

For anyone who has been shot irl (for some reason) should remember, how the thing didn't just knock you out, but rather send your will to sleep increasingly until you in fact pass out.

That's why I propose some changes to bullet shock damage:

On example it'd be the easiest to explain. 5,45 round slaps 115 shock damage (according to WOBO tools). On impact it'd deal half that amount immediately and over the span of 10(?) seconds it'd deal the rest of the shock damage (without that first shock regeneration).

It'd allow people to do some last-seconds actions before they pass out and additionally when hit and with a man still endangering your life you'd never know exactly when you pass out.

That ten seconds would result in a lot of people pulling out a grenade and unpinning it to take the attacker with them. Also I think people who pass out from getting shot in real life do so due to blood loss.

Also it would end in alot of frustration when you are longrange sniping. Most people are not dead after a shot, they are just uncon. But because they fall to the ground you can finish them off. With your proposed system... a 1HIT knockout would become very very rare....   You snipe someone that is running 150m in the distance...... you hit him... but he has 10 more seconds to get into the next building and he will pass out there.

Overall i dont think this would improve dayz in any way.

But its nice having some ideas to dicuss^_^

Yep, sniping would become pointless. Especially that gunshot wounds in DayZ are mostly inconsequential, as long as you don't get a fracture all you have to do is bandage over it and be back to fully functional in no time. In real life even by some miracle the bullet misses all the vital organs, arteries and nerves and leave a nice clean exit wound you'd need stitches which you'd have to be careful with few a while or tear them back out. If it missed all of the above and stayed in you'd have to get it out trying not to cause too much damage while doing it. After that it's antibiotics for at least a week so you don't get an infection. All of which is massively optimistic scenario based on a full metal jacket small calibre bullet that won't mushroom. Hunting rounds such as .308 are usually soft which they do mushroom and cause massive internal damage and exit would size of a adult mans fist. And if you wear ballistic vests that will stop the bullet from entering your body, the kinetic energy will break ribs and cause pulmonary edema which if not drained will result in you dying anyway.

In DayZ conditions of complete lack of advanced medical care most gunshots would would be fatal, or leave you badly crippled for a long time. Even pea shooter like .22 lr to the upper body would be a massive problem. As small and weak as that bullet is, it's still perfectly capable or ruining any internal organ it hits.
