Survivors go missing

Hello! I'm farely new to the game so this vould be a stupid question. I noticed that sometimes my survivors get missing/deleted after I exit the game... This happened to me both on official and community servers. I play, exit normaly (I dont die) and after lets say a few minutes or a day the survivor is not there anymore in the survivor selection section at the start of the game.

The character in the menu doesnt always show you as you are in game. When you reconnect to the server, you should be the same as when you left. Every time you join a community server, you start with a new character for that server; there's no server hopping in community, only in official.
