Server seems to have disappeared

Hi guys I'm new to the game and was playing a newbies servers 5.83.171.96 been playing for about 2 week. Collected a wide range of loot, vehicles, storages and was just getting to the base building side of the game. Yesterday morning was playing perfectly fine then I jumped off for a couple hour and went back on to find that server wouldn't let me back in and when I searched the IP it was shown 0 servers found. What is the reason for this as I seem to have lost all my progress and would be a shame to have to start again

No one from Bohemia Interactive manages non-official servers.  If your newbies server changed, then that is probably something well beyond the company's control.

Choose your community servers carefully.  Get used to losing everything.  A lot.  You will lose everything many times over.  Either to player death or server wipes, it's inevitable.  Good luck.

Also, I recommend getting acquainted with battlemetrics dot com.  It's a great resource for monitoring game servers.

Thank you. So am I better playing official servers then and how often are server wipes or is it dependent on activity and length of time per server

IMO, the Community Servers can offer much more content & flavor. However the Official servers are less likely to change IP addresses or become deactivated. I think wipes happen on major updates. One thing you will notice is that on community servers, when there is an update sometimes it can break mods that are running on the server. This creates an issue with servers that are running those mods and it is up to the server owner or team of people running that server to make the necessary changes. But most of the time this issue is not such a hindrance. I play only on Community Servers. Best thing you can do is just move on to another one. Welcome to DayZ :)
