More Advanced Medical Features in DayZ.

Recommended Posts

BI Studios have done an amazing job with DayZ So far. The medical side of thing is in depth enough to be sophisticated but also easy to understand. What if we took it another step further?

Surgical Kits, they're in alot of mods on PC Already, but how do they work? It's easy to understand but, if you need one, it may already be too late.

The addition of Surgical Kits or Treatment would vastly change the Medical field in DayZ by doing one of Many things. First, what Applications would it be used in? Imagine you're in a Firefight, Someone Shoots you, there is a chance that bullet has not gone through you, but instead is stuck inside of you. How will you get it out, by using a Surgical Kit that should last anywhere from 10 to 15 seconds to remove the bullet, then to stop the bleeding with a bandage. There are other applications, such as Shrapnel from a grenade or maybe a vehicle explosion, Maybe a Knife wound cut too deep and knicked an artery, Use the Surgical Kit to remove any Fragments that may be under your skin and sew your tissue back. Be careful to not wait too long, the longer you wait for Surgery, The bigger the chance you risk for a Life Risking Infection. The difference from this infection and that of a Regular wound infection? This can lead to Gangrene, Which WILL Kill you unless you find very strong Antibiotics, That Tetracycline may come in handy, However, it will only work for so long if you still have a foreign object inside you. For an Arterial bleed, you do not risk Infection, You will simply just risk a Timely Demise from Internal Bleeding.

I think to expand on this, items like a tourniquet for example could be used to stop bleeding of a specific area in the event that you're shot or step on a bear trap etc. cause if you put a bandage on it wouldn't immediately solve the issue, maybe for example a more serious wound would have a status effect item that shows multiple drops of blood, and you'd need to use a tourniquet for that, then you could sew the wound closed and bandage it.
Other than that, the defibrillator should really be in the game at this point, it could be used to quickly revive unconscious individuals, or maybe within a certain amount of time after you die or something, instead of immediately respawning you can use it on them to save them. I think that would be a fantastic addition and could be a neat mechanic to implement.

I've had similar thoughts. I think the way damage works in pvp situations is in desperate need of attention. When I first started playing, knockouts from shock damage were rare if they occurred at all. Now it seems that they happen every fight, sometimes multiple times in one fight. I no longer feel rewarded for a patient, well placed shot from a distance because the target is likely to be knocked, fall to cover/out of sight, then wake up with %75 hp and full stamina so they can zig-zag away. You're better off shooting someone in the leg or simply spraying and praying from close range with a high rpm weapon. There have been many times I'm knocked out and wake up just as someone is running to finish the job and I manage to spray them down from the prone position. When you take a .308 to your plate-carrier and get knocked down, there should be a probability of cracking a rib, adding sapped stamina or running speed for a duration. In addition to that new status effect, the development of a tension pneumothorax and chest seals/chest darts could be added for more realistic combat trauma. Also, players shouldn't be able to get away with spamming morphine and adrenaline to have an edge in pvp - it's extremely unrealistic and cheesy.
