is there a try out period without purchasing the game to try it and see if i like it. Because i don't want to purchase and don't like it and think to myself that i wasted money purchasing the game.

There's no trial period.  There are plenty of videos, reviews and discussions that span years.  Maybe you could check those out first?

Steam has a 2 hours of playtime/2 weeks since purchase return policy, I think. Never tried it myself so do some research on it.
