Getting over the fear of losing your gear.

Recommended Posts

A simple rule can be applied to DayZ like it is other games. Don't use what you can't afford to lose.
Don't always equip your best gear when on excursions. Take you what you need, leave the rest in a cache; camp, or base.
That's what the persistence is for. You're gonna find more than you can carry so you should keep some reserves.

You're also going to die, so best not carry everything you own on your back, else it will always sting.
when you walk around like a loot pinata you're gonna get hunted as if you were easy game.
just by default, carry less weight, you can afford to take more risk that way.

Buried Dry bags are the most important and i never travel very far distances anymore. I never try to make it way north on Chernarus. I try to set my self up somewhere and i never stray more than 3 or 4 kilometers away from my stash spots.

So what I'm saying is i think its important to know what type of playstyle you want to use. Have a plan or an idea. This way you dont end up traversing the map with no goal as a giant loot chest waiting to be popped by a trigger freindly player.

For example, last wipe on Australian server dayzdownunder i stuck to the cherno industrial coast line and chose a large 3 story building as a safe house. I buried supplies and bags and decided i would help fresh spawns i see in the area and try to assist them with basic supplies.

It became very interesting on the busy times of the server. My safehouse became more of a an outpost with some of the regulars who knew me would drop by the next time they were in the area.

I always had a rifle and binocs and would scope out gun shots i could hear in the distance from atop the 3rd story building. When a player who was heading into cherno city would come to stock up at the outpost, I would give them a smoke grenade and tell them to use it if attacked and tell them to try throw it ontop of a roof so i could see where they were and advise future players coming through the same route.  Helping people or being a bandit in the same area gets interesting because people start to learn that you are there and it can create interesting circumstances over a period of weeks of operating in the same area. This is when things like notes can get interesting too.

So anyway my point is, put a bit of thought into what you want to do. Its alot less stressfull sticking to a certain area and having stash points with your main gear. This makes you less afraid of interactions with other players. Of course this playstyle can be boring of staying in the same area but i find running through the forest simulator even more boring.

One of my biggest things these days is i dont care about military weapons. A blaze with scope and a magnum pistol with maybe a sawn off shotty and I'm happy.
