What is this explosion sound that occurs during the game?

On 1.13? It's just a teaser for 1.14.

On 1.14? It could be artillery strikes/ heli crashes.

The event is only currently on experimental servers.

The base game just has the sounds. Experimental servers actually have the toxic gas clouds too.

It depends. The helicopter explosions don't have the heli crashing visually. But if you follow the direction of the sound you might find the downed chopper.

The artillery sounds are followed by a visual shell exploding above the target and green toxic gas being released.
