Takistan

Anyone playing this new map?

It's pretty good and it makes a welcome change to the usual DayZ experience. It's great to see new regions being opened up in the game.

Yeh. I just know Chernarus too well now.

Takistan is a complete unknown though. So when you find something, it really is new. The ingame map is about as useful as a chocolate teapot though. Plus the heat thing adds a new element, although it hasn't been too challenging I have to say and the sandstorms can be a bitch. If there's one criticism I have it's that the loot in civilian houses can be a bit sparse and underwhelming...and very random. So a lot of players just make a beeline to whatever the nearest airport is making places like that a deathtrap.

There's no base building, though, so people can't horde shit and wreck the game. So there's a good chance to find some decent weaponry.

It's worth a go.

To be honest... looks like a reject map from Call of Duty or something. Yet another pew pew map focused on PVP only pretty much.

Almost everything is PVP nowadays. Trying to talk usually gets you killed. It creates more kos-ers by that mentality.

Unfortunately, this is the case.

It's a nice looking map and a welcome change from the usual freeze your bollocks off DayZ experience. But the problem with it is the same one that plagues Esseker. It's just a PVP map because it's so small, which is always what's going to happen when the real estate is limited. It's a decent PVP map, but still just a PVP map. But for the time being it serves that purpose.

In saying that, it's ironic that on both Esseker and Takistan, I have found more friendly players than on any other map I've played. This is despite the fact that it's solidly PVP.

If anyone's trying it, I'd say go for Zero Takistan rather than Spaggies. Spaggies has tons of new guns added that just kills the game stone dead. You run to an airfield and gear up. Takes about an hour, tops. Then there really is nothing else to do but go on a killing spree until your dead.

So, while it's great that we are getting new maps on DayZ, what we really need are new maps that are the size of Chernarus or bigger, especially if you want to do any PVE in a significant way. Because once players get bored of the smaller maps they are effectively useless.

I like the Afghanistan/Desert/Mountain-theme and played the map for 8 hours coward-PvP-like over the weekend. Looted around until I got a blaze with a scope, then hide out in the high ground rocks or buildings and cowardly shot players from long distances. Run down to loot and hide again camping for more. Got some Karma by breaking a leg from a fall down the rocks and died in a sandstorm in the process while crawling for sticks. So kinda PvE at the end.

Aside from being a snipers paradise, its also its harder to hide a base with these long viewranges. To carry logs around the map is a little suicidal. Sure, you could set up a car or take the shovel and dig in some crates if you find one. On modded servers like the one from KarmaKrew, the basebuilding supplies are kinda hard to find. The basebuilding needs some more love in the future. The small amount of foliage on Takistan makes you very visible and I agree it can get boring.

On Takistan you can regulary shoot at the 300m+ range and fire 10 Shots from a sniper where in other maps you may have a way smaller number of sniped shots at players before they vanish into the forest.  There are some high ground rock formations, even with military loot and cave-like structures where you can go. But once thats common knowledge they become hotspots too.

The temperature-spread could be a little more, hotter at daytime and colder at nighttime to be challenging. Some mods were fun like the can of "unknown food" - found this first and ate it, but got sick.... Food is not really scarce but once it is, this is a nice trade-off.

So nice work in general, finally you can feel lost again in a map. But like everything in the game this could use continous polishing in the future.
