My suggestions

1. Comeback to the old melee combat system. The actual one is disgusting. You cannot even hit properly the corpses on floor if somebody is unconscious, or a zombie with broken legs, for example. In normal fights is just about spamming clicks cause if you dont spam it, you dont make continued atacks. Seriously, this melee system is cancer.

2. Add bows and improvised traps as the old days. Its supossed to be a survival game, not the Call of duty gameplay we are seeing this last days on Dayz. Between Dayz Team and community decissions you are really broken the idea of this game.

3. Add more animals. (rabbits, fishes, birds...)

4. Fix the nights, after years without any solution. When is one of the most basic things in every game.

5. Add functions to the actual loot. For example... sunglasses doesnt work

6. Fix the cars, after years without any solution.

7. Players can sprint going up hills with almost 80 -90% unevenness/ramp (or whatever its said)

8. Players can aim so clean with holding breathe. Is not reallistic. Normal person dont have that skill to aim that perfect at thousand of meters like a proffesional sniper. 

Etc etc etc...

What's wrong with the nights? 

Also, we do have fish of course, but rabbits would be nice to see again. 

I find melee fine personally. 

Not sure cars will ever really get fixed.

1. Nights are too dark even with full moon. You are able to see almost everything in RL with full moon.

2. As we have chikens and other animals around the map, we should have visible fishes on lakes, sea or rivers.

3. I find this melee system a cancer with reasons. Is about spammig clicks and nothing esle practically. And its a fact you cannot hit properly bodies on floors. Is a nightmare. Players can hit with the charged atack in distance, without even touching you, but you receive the hit. We had a good mechanich in older versions: the pain and broken bones <--- things that are not working good on this versions. It was a factor on melee combats, the pain factor was very important on older versions. Like... if you had broken arm after receiving a hit, if you receive a hit on that arm again you felt much pain that mades you felt unconscious. But whatever, my english is not deep enough to explain this well.

4. Yea, afters so many years and since devs put the game in community's hands, I have completely lost my faith with this game. Sad, when it was my favourite game by faaaarrr.

 

Game is not gonna improve since people is playing Dayz more like Call of Duty and they defend how the game is right now. Sad.

Remember that next time trying to kill somebody who is landed unconscious or a zombie with broken legs. Or remember that when you have next melee combat in Dayz... just count how much clicks you needed to make. Cause if you dont spam clicks you dont make the continued atack once you are without stamina. Remember that, then you come again and tell us 😅😂

Yeah, this might be the only thing that's needed to change, at least for now... Fist fights should be more than just button mashing, properly timed blocks should stagger the opponent.

No stamina punches should be very very weak, and getting hit during the exhausted period should do more shock or something.

Also DayZ needs exhaustion system, where you could run for longer distances, but your sway would be much worse once you stop and aim.
This way, players can choose between faster travel but worse aim, and worse recovery time, or slower travel but usual aim and usual recovery time.

Infected are a one hit if taken from behind. This really encourages stealthy game play. I was taking down aggro infected with three or four hits with an axe. I dunno, this feels about right to me. I actually like almost being knocked unconscious when you have a couple attacking you. Infected have been so weak and easy to avoid up till now. The game is more challenging as a result. But that's just my take on it. 

The other point you were making about loot having function, I can only think of glasses. Pretty sure most items in game have a function now don't they? 

I'm also (personally) happy with nights as they are. I hate the night light on 3pp servers, but I only play hardcore servers anyway so not really an issue. If you make the nights light like other games then it becomes pointless. There are lots of ways to see at night, flashlight, improv torch, glow stick, head lamp, nvg. Then it becomes a tactical choice. I generally manage to navigate at night without a light source and really only need it when looting indoors. Obviously a light source can give away your position, so you make that choice. But there are also lots of community servers with short or lighter nights if you don't like the dark nights. I like to hole up, cook food, repair gear or travel from place to place without fear of being seen. 

We all know that dayz has various issues, nobody disputes that. But there is also nothing else quite like dayz

I'd love to see the improvised bow back in the game to bring some real stealth options to PVP, hunting and taking out infected without alerting another 50 of them. It would absolutely change the dynamics of the game and make hunting more fun too. Although I'm loving Livonia with sheep, pigs, goats and deer. Rabbits would be a great inclusion. Also a primitive trap would be fantastic and adding things like trip wires that can cause broken legs on players not paying attention (sprinting into a trip wire).
