Bullet penetration revamp

Recommended Posts

Hi, recently WOBO posted a video about bullet penetration in Dayz, that can be found here:

Video

As it seems, bullet penetrations is almost exclusively dependant on projectile speed. This creates some situations that are inconsistent with RL, with some examples being:

- 9x39 AP should penetrate 8mm of steel at 100m and still cause significant injury to the target, yet in game it fails to penetrate leaves/plywood/simple sheet metal.

- 5.56 is the best penetrating round in game, penetrating multiple layers. Yet IRL, the 55gr M193 ammo (assuming the game uses this as base) will tumble after penetrating 1-2 layers of material, even plywood.

- 9mm/.45 fail to penetrate single layers of material, yet IRL it can penetrate more layers of plywood than 5.56 due to the sheer momentum of the round.

These examples can be verified by a simple search on youtube.

Suggestion: account for weight of the projectile, and it's composition for penetration calculations.

Basically, that would put momentum + core composition as the main factor for bullet penetration against most materials.

by rights, shotgun slugs should penetrate more. they are absolutely lethal. they should up the energy somewhat, 55grain .223 rem vs 525grain slug. big difference, even 2500fps vs 1400fps on a good day.

shotguns have always been upper tier. they just arnt accurate at distance.
