Can not dismantle Fence need help

I am new and trying to build my first gate.  here is what I did.
1. I first built a fence kit and placed it where I wanted.
2. Put two logs down and used shovel to build base which gave me a fence with two posts.
3. I then watched a butt load of YouTube videos which were no help as I think they are outdated.
4. No matter what i did I did not get a option to build a frame or gate.  Some how I did get an option to attach planks nails and metal walls but never got any options to assemble them 
5. I finally got an option to build a deck with stairs when holding a hammer or nails i think so I thought maybe i need to do that. But that was the wrong thing to do now I am stuck in my base with a deck and stairs blocking the way out. 

Is there a way to disassemble the deck and get my wood back?  I have tried using shovels, crowbar, ax, pliers nothing gives a disassemble option and I cant not get out of the base. Please help.

You need to have a hammer or hatchet equipped to build the fence.  The components need to be in the component slots.  Then you cycle through the prompts to build the portions of the fence you want.   If you build something you don't want equip an axe and you will get prompts to disassemble portions of the fence.  To remove the posts you need to dig them up with a shovel.
