equipping an axe as a secondary?

is this possible? i was in a warehouse and had to use my hunting rifle, my rounds attracted more zombies so i ran out of ammo. i had an axe but i had no idea how to equip it. is it the ; key? to switch around?

right-click on your melee weapon in your inventory to remove it from your belt to your secondary slot. And 'reload' your melee after that.
