How to delete characters from servers?

I am trying to transfer my main character to a server that my friend is playing on but everytime I spawn it loads my other character with nothing on it..Why is it so difficult to change servers?

As far as I'm aware, official servers share the same character but reset your location to combat server hopping among other things, private servers has one character per server.

You have official public hive, community public hive and then you have private servers.  The hives retain the same character while private community servers use a different one.  You cannot move your official character to a private server, for example.

Sorry I forgot to mention we are only playing official servers at the moment. It seems as though any server that says "Character Alive: Survivor" will only continue to load THAT character, instead of my main character which is named h3r0 mike jr. My question is: On the servers that display "Character Alive: Survivor," How do I reset that so that it displays "Character Alive: h3r0 mike jr?"
