The incoming "DayZ Expension" mod will maybe brings NPCs, this was one of their objective but I heard they had to abandon some wanted feature to progress on the others, so maybe NPC will finaly not come with this mod. For up-to-date scripts, you can extract game data on a Pdrive (search "Dayz Pdrive" if you don't see what I'm talking about) or you can unpack existing mods to see how they are done (without stealing code of course).
