JoeyB123 6 Posted May 1, 2020 Hey guys had the game about a week. Was quite difficult to get around the UI and some of the crafting niggles etc, certainly doesn't hold your hand, but I'm a lot more familiar now. I do however have a few questions for clarification... 1)When it comes to farming, I've read pumpkin is the best, albeit I know things can change with each patch. I can't understand how that's true though? On the wiki it says all vegetables have the same calories/water, most when baked at 35kcal. I also read quite a recent post confirming they were still the same calories. If this is true aren't tomatoes best, as the plant gives you 5-6 and they only take up 1slot, compared to 2 for pepper and 3 for zucchini? Pumpkins wise the plant only seems to give 2 and you only get one lot of slices from it? Or is it 35kcal per baked slice but one item is actually multiple? 2) Again sort of making sure the wiki page is up to date. It seems mackerel fillets are probably one of the best sources of hunted/caught food/ A baked one is 3 slots and 600 calories, is that correct? I've been fishing and they do seem to fill you for a while, but wanting to know what's most optimal. 3) I haven't really tried it much yet but since duct tape can fix most things including guns, is there any reason to keep/stash gun cleaning kits? Do they last any longer etc? Or just a less versatile duct tape? 4) I'm more a PvE player and have set up what looks to be quite an isolated spot for myself growing some crops and stashed a few basic items, I hope to help new players just roaming with a bag full of food etc. Though I appreciate many will be hostile. With that in mind I was wondering since I'm not going to put huge effort into finding the best guns, do headshots from pistols etc still take a human out, or does it very much depend on the ammo used? At the moment I'm just keeping guns I find until I research what does what. I have found an M70 tundra and a hunting scope with I hear are quite good, just need to find bullets. 5) Finally for now, relates to guns. I know firing is quite loud generally, but just how far does it travel from a loud rifle for instance? I was messing around on a fresh spawn who died of starvation lol, spent the time swimming out to that Prison island, just exploring. I was on the right part of the island quite near the sea, couldn't see anyone else on the island and it was low pop at the time, but who knows. Anyway I heard what sounded like rifle shots but they sounded rather distant. I was wondering if the sound can travel far enough they could be on the mainland near the coast, or if it isn't that far and they were on the island just not shooting at me I guess, trying to get a feel for distances etc. I'll probably think of more but any help would be great! EzyStriderPS4 191 Posted May 1, 2020 1&2 not a clue! sorry #3: I cannot confirm this officially, but I have noticed no difference between using tape vs. the gun kit for repairs. I am also going to assume that your character's soft skills could possibly affect the quality of the repair; especially when you use the right tool for the job. (Soft skills refers to the slider above your stamina bar with the needle and hammer when you open inventory.) #4: Headshots provide a multiplier to damage and shock incurred. Longer distances will diminish the amount of damage. Headshots with any gun, inside 25m, against an un-armored player, will be lethal. Pistol calibers may not kill a player with a ballistic helmet (blue NATO), or an assault helmet (green with visor attachment), however, if shot at close range may render them unconscious. The two aforementioned head armors are the only two that provide any decent protection for your skull, but will not protect against a high-powered round (.308 + 7.62x54mmR). That Tundra you've found is probably my 2nd favorite gun. It is so reliable, packs a punch, and the attachable scope provides excellent magnification (tip: lay prone if shooting out to distances of 200m or longer). My longest confirmed Player kill (he/she was not wearing armor) with the Tundra is at 326m, Infected at just over 600m. I've hit armored players at 30m with the Tundra and they survived, no knock out, but the plate carrier gets trashed after one .308 round. #5: The bigger the caliber you use, the longer the distance the sound will travel. It has been officially confirmed that high-powered rounds can be heard 3.5km away. Shooting suppressed can decrease this distance to less than 1km for certain weapons. If you are shooting that Tundra without a bottle suppressor, it is almost a guarantee that one-quarter of the map will hear you. The more shots you fire, the better other players will be able to locate where they originated. Without a suppressor, pistols are probably audible out to about 1km, rifles somewhere between that 3.5km max, and possibly 2km. (The last sentence is an estimate, and can potentially be incorrect information.) All this information is based on my personal experience in Offical Hardcore server (1pp Vanilla), no mods. Tim Stahl 0 Posted May 2, 2020 ive been playing the game for a wile now. ive expierenced all types of situations, i dont play community servers just official on xbox. 1-as far as farming goes ive never really spent the time dong it other than when someone was sick, i was told eating the vegetables and actual meat is much better than canned food, although i dont know this to be a fact, my advice is to find a mosin with a scope and keep an improvised surpressor(wate bottle combined with ductape) and go on a hunts to keep up with hunger. i like to keep the cooking stove with me, the stove+gas can+pot+12 slots of food+water in the pot= 12 slots when combined. also your able to cook food without making a fire(which can be very noticible). but thats not even all the benifits,, cooked food can make u over heat if in your jacket or pants but inside the pot it will not, then if u ever find urself caught in the rain u can take the items from ur pot and line your jacket with them to keep warm. 2-wile fishing is a great sorce of food im liable to ditch the fishing rod once i find myself a reliable hunting rifle, reason being, the rod takes up alot of inventory space, even if useing an improvised rod u can keep on your back, a hunting rifle offers self protection and the means to feed yourself. i like to keep aa mosin with a improvised suppressor but i keep the surpessor off because its like a giant antenna. the way i see it if u are going to make a suppressed shot u should have time to put the suppressor on it first. heres my set up for solo surviving, the gas stove setup kept in my pants with a canteen on my belt(canteen plus the water from the stove should be enough to get you a-b) can food in my pants to be ate last, when food is low in the pot u know to go after the next animal you hear. even with the supressor though if a player hears that its like moths to a flame, youll wanna gut the animal and get out the area. espessially if your pve type. extra food that doesnt fit in my pants a put in my bag, but my bag i keep only what im willing to ditch because if im being shot at and feel i need to flee ill try to ditch the bag somewhere ill remember, reduce the weight to gain my stamina and less to be seen, plus if u do et killed theres a chance they dont find that bag and it can be recovered. 3-as far as "fix-its" go, i carry one of each and all the ductape i can find. use the ductape last being as though it fixes all so its most valuable. if i find a sewing kit that has more left in it then the one i have ill drop mine for it and etc. but ive found it necassary to cary all "fix-its" 4-a headshot with most guns should do yeah. if the arnt wernt protection, mellee to to the head is good to knock them out, a trick i also use in situations is if ive got a lock pick ill go into a 2 story house house and lock myself in a upstairs room, if u have a pursuer you can time a shot so it will aggro zombies wilist they are insde, trapping them somewhere on the stairs or ouside your door. if the zombies kill him, stay still awile they will begin to go away. in a situation where youve got nothing else a can of food in your hands wile increase melee, a good hit to the head can render a player unconscious. 5-a bullet close you will hear the crack of it going past and they also make a loud noise pretty much whatever they hit, you will know if u have been shot at, i would hope your useing headphones with at least sony sonic for the digital surround sound.differant calibers will be louder and sound differant, also get to know the map, if u were on prison island, depend on the direction most likly bolata airfield or the milly tents to the west, listeen for 2 different sounding guns, usually u can determine if the shots are a gunfight or someone killing zombies. with experience you will pick up on things like distance and what the other person is doing. but ur survival instincts will no doubt let you know if u are being shot it like ive said ive got alot of expierence, i used to have a clan, have done everything from, exterminating dupers, to circit racing, all on official servers, it really is a great game, ill leave a invite to my discord if u wanna talk more, i also streeam on mixer. Happy Zurviving !! https://discord.gg/8k5Gztj
JoeyB123 6 Posted May 3, 2020 Wow thanks for the answers on those points guys that's great. I think with the vegetables question I'll just have to experiment but yeah meat does fill you a lot more. I have another question before I get into any potential pvp situations, as a mate of mine and his brother are playing with me and he's more keen on the military bases. If I have a gun with a full mag lets say a SG5-K, and I have another full mag in my inventory, when I empty the mag can I shortcut some way to re-load by changing mags, does the game offer this automatically, or would you need to pause to remove your mag and combine the other one mid-combat? DayzDayzFanboy 1280 Posted May 3, 2020 You just hold Y to reload. This also works if you're holding a mag and have loose ammo in your inventory. Double tapping Y will unload a weapon or mage that you're holding
EzyStriderPS4 191 Posted May 3, 2020 I always hot bar mags from the days of gun mag glitching and ghost bullets. That way you can run and reload simultaneously.
JoeyB123 6 Posted May 4, 2020 Nice one guys. Alright got a draw distance query. So if I use binoculars or certain scopes, the grass in the distance isn't rendered in and bushes are a bit so-so. Does that mean if a player was that far away hiding, laying down in the grass or in a ghillie etc they'd just be obvious? Or does it not draw players in either at that distance? Final thing for now just want to confirm. For Wooden Crates, barrels, sea chests. Do they only persist for 45 days if buried? Is it less but still a while on the surface? I assume it's a while with wooden crates on the surface as I've come across what look like a few stashes now, but just wanted to know.
