vfxtodd 125 Posted December 30, 2019 All I've been doing is spawning in the middle of nowhere, whether I'm on Livonia or Chenraus, and dying of starvation. I go on Livonia servers, I spawn in the middle of nowhere. Nothing but trees and mountains in every direction I look. I start running, picking any direction, since I don't know the map. Plus, I can't learn Livonia since I'm constantly spawning and starving to death before I get anywhere where there's food or water. Same on Chenaraus. I just spawn and have no idea where I am. Yet, I am so far away from anything that I die of starvation there as well. I've spent the last two days in DayZ spawning and dying of starvation. Wow. What a survival game. DayZ has become DayZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz. It used to be fun. Now it's just frustrating and boring.
SkeetRage 27 Posted December 30, 2019 I can't tell you how long it's been since I've died of starvation. And I die all the time in PVP, respawn in the middle of nowhere, and find my way. You need to zoom into the distance and take a hard look at any landmarks of any type. Power lines, lakes/rivers, biking trails, dirt roads, follow these to civilization. Livonia is a bit more sparse with cities than Chernarus is and has a much greater volume of wooded areas so you need to be looking for these types of things to survive. When you find a town, look for canned food/bags of rice in houses, look for a knife and skin a chicken, get some seeds in a greenhouse and a shovel and grow some food, smack some infected around and take their food, whatever you can. Hope it helps.

DayZ has become DayZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz. It used to be fun. Now it's just frustrating and boring. Get the iZurvive app. On Chenarus at least, it's actually not that hard to find out where you are within the first few minutes you spawn in. As mentioned, look for landmarks and compare them to the map. .....look for road signs that will indicate whether your entering or leaving a particular city (white signs) or how far from a city you are (blue signs). If you're still not sure where you are or maybe your way outside of of town, take note of bridges, railroads, where each cross each other, tree lines, buildings, roads and their shapes / directions. In Chenarus, you spawn on the shoreline. Take note of the Sun's position in the sky (e.g. rises in the East and sets in the West). Look for lighthouses and where they are situated. Compare them to the lighthouses on the map app. As you play more, you will be able to recognize towns and places far more easily as they become more familiar. When wandering further inland, you can follow power lines sometimes or take a general bearing between major landmarks / towns as you work your way across the map. Water and radio towers tend stand out on a horizon and can really help with orientation. Obviously, if you find a compass, you can go anywhere with a high degree with accuracy as long as you keep track of your progress along the way. As far as food (again, at least on Chenarus), seek out boats as they will commonly have sodas and/or canned items. They can also spawn fishing poles and fishing hooks. Use a knife or shovel to dig up worms in a grassy area and then you can bait the hooks, combine them with the pole and go fishing. ......then gut the fish, get a long stick, start a fire and get to cooking. Cooked fish are an awesome food source and I've found are possibly more effective than large canned items. If you are going to use a chicken to form a hook from it's bones, you need to wash/disinfect your hands or risk getting ill the next time you feed yourself. Make sure when wandering around on the shoreline that you don't make it obvious. Use tree lines where possible to help mask your movements. .....move between clumps of trees, etc. and always keep your head on a swivel. Personally, if I found a pole and hooks I would find a more secluded pond on the map app and go there if possible. Fish for a while and then find a private place where you can cook in peace and create a store of food for yourself. As mentioned, the infected can also be a fairly reliable source of canned food and also some gear. ....and sometimes actually safer than running along the coast.
vfxtodd 125 Posted January 4, 2020 Ive been playing DayZ for four years. The state it's in now is atrocious compared to the buggier versions of the past. My most common experience now is spawn (in the middle of nowhere - which is especially disturbing on a new map like Livonia)....run and run...and run....and run. Find lots of clothes and glow sticks. Not much else. And DIE from starvation. I know how to play DayZ. But, the loot economy is utter crap, DayZ used to have better loot frequency. I don''t mind spawning as a freshie. I welcome it actually because it maintains the survival side of the game. I don't mind just eating to survive. As long as I can survive and keep moving around and finding things, I'm ok. But, lately, I just spawn...run around and find clothes and glow sticks...and then die from starvation. I have NEVER had this kind of repetitious experience before. There are more zombies than ever. Now I start fighting one zombie, all of a sudden a swarm shows up. Shortly after I usually starve to death for the lack of ANYTHING on ANY of these servers. Livonia is a new map. I haven't learned it, yet. But, even still, I always spawn with nothing but trees and mountains as far as the eye can see. And 80% of the time I just die from starvation. I've never seen DayZ with this little loot or supplies. LOTS of clothes everywhere. And fricken glow sticks. Glow sticks? Really? That's what you're gonna find in a post apocalyptic world? Glow sticks? Sorry, but this is not the DayZ I came to love to play. This is horrendous.

generalmayhem 29 Posted January 4, 2020 The Livonia maps are terrible for fruit. Hundreds and Hundreds of Fruit Trees and never any Fruit. Also Livoia today Official servers I was agroing Zombies from half a mile away where I was in a house with bino's and I have never seen so much rain. I log out rather than get soaked for hours on end. Far easier than building a fire every 4th house to dry out.

Kean__1 144 Posted January 5, 2020 I was asking because PS4 is a mess right now in regard to bugs and optimization issues. .....all arguments regarding mechanics / design choices aside.

I just came from a server, which I thought was Chenaraus, where I was having some success at finding food and supplies. When I was skinning a chicken, all of a sudden a zombie appeared and attacked me. Next thing I know, another zombie magically appeared. And I found myself fighting off two at the same time. Funny though, I didn't hear either one of these zombies growling nearby before the attack. I left the server when my character suddenly froze. The game didn't freeze because I could see everything else still moving and the wind blowing. This is the third time in a week that this has happened. It NEVER happened before. Game developers seem to be getting dumber over time. Every game I've played this past year has had more bugs than a rotting corpse. A year later, Battlefield 5 still doesn't perform well on consoles. Maybe it's a console thing. I don't know.

Well, that explains a lot. So, how do I track fixes for the PS4 version? I'm starting to think I should wait until after the next patch. Though I know that patches sometimes fix some things, and break something else. It's the meta in game development these days it seems.

Theyll usually put "PC" or "Console" at the beginning for specific changes to each. Yeah, new content is great but when they ignore some of the long standing issues it gets really irritating. .....and then with the new content / changes, there always seems to be new bugs introduced. The last patch helped take care of most of the new bugs as far as I can tell but other things are as screwed up as they have been for a long while. They really need to buckle down and start focusing on fixing the game with these updates rather than introducing new things. Make a solid foundation to build on.
