Black Screen Crash on Launch

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

So my DayZ was working fine for several months, however out of the blue one day it just started to crash on launch.  I open the game as I normally have for ages but I get stuck with a solid black screen that just crashes after a bit.  My father and I have both tried endless solutions from online and debugging programs to determine what is going on but we don't get any crash logs, dump files, etc.  which seemed really bizarre.  I'm wondering if something might have happened on the games end or a specific setting that could have messed it up?  Everything else works perfectly on my PC and my father who works for a tech company and myself have thoroughly tried to debug and find solutions with the game, Steam, my hardware and drivers, Windows 10, and so much more but we couldn't figure anything out.  Does anyone know a possible fix to this issue?  It's quite gutting that it just stopped working all of a sudden when I was in my prime playing it.

Thanks all, Noola

You've probably checked this already, but did the Application or System logs in Windows Event Viewer log anything for this?

The only other thing I can suggest is to delete the \My Documents\DayZ folder and the \AppData\Local\DayZ folder and then use the Steam client to verify all the game files.  This will delete your settings of course, so you'll have to configure keybinds, graphics, etc. again, but perhaps you have some corruption somewhere in those files -- worth a try if you haven't done this already.

Good luck -- hope you figure it out.
