Oh Long Johnson 3 Posted October 12, 2019 After dying 5 times in two days at the coast as a new or fairly new spawn I’ve learned a valuable lesson I thought I already knew. DONT TRUST ANYBODY. Ive murdered in the past in this game and I felt bad for it. I almost always try to keep my guns for my own self defense and nothing more. I’m always more than willing to give people food, drink, tools, etc. But in 3 of my 5 recent deaths, I was killed by other players pretending to be friendly. I speak up, tell them I’m friendly, they in all 3 cases said they were too. Then in the middle of talking with them, I get popped. Or, two guys even kept the charade up for a good 15 minutes. I gave them each 4 cans of food and a can of soda, and we ran together for a bit. Soon as I took a drink, they turned on me. I ended up killing them both, but bled out thanks to the new bleeding mechanic in 1.05 It seems I have no choice but to kos anymore. Where are the true friendlies at?

Oh Long Johnson 3 Posted October 12, 2019 That’s a cowardly tactic. But I guess it’s my own fault for not shooting first.
Parazight 1599 Posted October 12, 2019 No repercussions for morally questionable behavior, eh? There is no permadeath anymore. I haven't played DayZ on Xbox, but I assume it wouldn't be more friendly than some dedicated PC community servers. Good luck. Get callous.
Dodd54 28 Posted October 12, 2019 Totally agree with you on this one, there isn’t many friendlies out there since day 1 of coming out on console I’ve met 2 so far and they we’re short and sweet. Like you say Trust No One especially if you have decent gear!!
Thunderpants_AU 80 Posted October 13, 2019 (edited) The thing is you need to act the way you would if you were really in the situation; your priorities are water, food, and gear in that order. If you are play DayZ to make friends, this is the wrong game for you 😉 Always, ALWAYS presume any players you see are hostile. Teaming up with a stranger or strangers is risky at best, as you have experienced. That being said, if I see a player that looks like he could use some help, I will do so if it does not put me in undue danger. My steps are always: 1. Get to a secure location where you can see that he is indeed alone and not bait for an ambush. 2. Call out to him from cover without giving your position away. If he reacts by looking around, but does not answer, he may not have a mic or he may be in party chat with his buddies telling them that he has a fish on the hook nearby and that they should start pushing on the area. 3. If he does not talk back, get the hell out of there. If he does talk back, take note of how long he takes to respond; he might be conferring with his team between talking to you, in which case get the hell out of there. 4. Presuming that you haven't got the hell out of there and that he seems legitimately friendly, ask him what he needs before coming out of cover. If you can help him, tell him to move to a specific location like inside the nearest building and meet him there. Have your gun ready and always keep your head on a swivel and your ears pricked for the sound of hurried footsteps. 5. You may have made a new friend, but trust is never on the table for at least a trip to vmc, nwaf and tisy together. 6. Never let your guard down in the first few hours. If you need to stop to eat or drink, do so in cover (as you should be doing any way). Do not put your weapon away until you are by yourself and safe. 7. If something happens that makes you uneasy with them, like they are reckless, asking for things that you need or suggesting that you go and meet up with his buddies, cut the umbilical. Survival is your #1 priority and if this new "friend" is putting that in jeopardy, he is expendable. I hope these tips help. I've played since DayZ launched in game preview, but have always been enthralled by the concept of the game since it came out on pc, though never having played it. My first encounter with another player was exactly how I detailed in the steps, though I was the player in need. I am actually amazed that he didn't kill me because my mic was not working, I was overencumbered and so couldn't drop the gun in my hand and I tried to run, lol! I never got his name and after the server reset, I never saw him again, but his legend lives on... The point is there are friendlies out there, you just need to take the necessary precautions when dealing with any player you meet.
