nope, I just haven’t needed to disinfect a bottle. Pouring out water to disinfect and then refilling, is all an extra step I do not take. I simply always use chlorine tablets, and nothing else. I say I’m wasting my time, because my way works for me, but other people’s way works for them. So, I will leave it all be. 😎 

Edit: haha yes yes, I know how to pour. I’m saying you can’t, as in you can’t just jump off the bridge! Man, these forums are wild.

Yes you can empty onto the ground. I've not needed to myself or tested it, but my friend does it all the time.

Btw I've used a military canteen before which I've considered clean, filled it up at a village well to find the water from the well carried disease also. I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this ? I always thought village wells were guaranteed safe.

I’ve not had that but had same issue from running water which is something to be cautious of because I thought it would be clean, obviously not 🤢

Running from what exactly ? Like a river?

Like I said I thought a village well would guarantee clean water. They're what i use the most. But I have at least twice caught a bug from them. If it's true, it would seem there isn't a perfectly clean water source in the game. Wells are possibly very low chance of being contaminated but there is a risk, imo unless someone could gladly correct me.

I tried this but the prompt would come up.  Does it have to be in a particular perspective (e.g. TPV or FPV)?  If it's a feature than I must be doing it wrong.  .....unless it's another glitch.

I've been looking down at the ground with a couple different water bottles in my hand and it never gives me the prompt to empty it.  .....just to drink.  

It will however give me the option to pour or fill from other containers on the ground depending.

In the past, a friend and I once made a fire just so he could extinguish it with the dirty water in his pot, which he allowed me to pour out the unsafe contents of my newly found water bottle into, so we could each fill our containers safely from the well. 

Pouring it on the ground is sooo easy.

Well, I tried standing outside, near a water source and inside on various surfaces. I will try again outside on various surfaces.

I was by a police station and no, in my case I didn't get the prompt near the well or in the surrounding area, indoors, etc.  I did try in a patch of grass and it worked.  HOWEVER,  I discovered in another session it was working as apparently it should in far more areas than it did in that earlier scenario I had.  

I'm just chalking it up to a glitch or that particular area that prevented me from performing the task.

It may just be that I recently took a hit from a Z before going about my business and coincidentally the bug symbol came on at the right time making it look like I got it from the well. I can't be sure, this is my primary way of keeping hydrated so hopefully it's not the case.

I got sick the other day and I couldn't see why.  I hadn't been in any CQBs with infected, eaten recently prior to that or anything else I could trace back to causing it.  I also always drink from containers as you do to avoid cross contamination.  My only explanation was either it was a glitch (not working as intended) or cause by something else I was not aware could affect me like that.  

Either way, I had antibiotics on me so it was easy enough to take care of.

Mine too, if I notice it quickly enough a single tetracycline pill kills the bug.

But I'm certain some wells are dirty water sources.

I think this happened to me earlier today.  I know I filled my canteen at the well and not some random source.  I would estimate a 5% - 10% chance of infection from town wells in my experience thus far.  I have been using cholorine tablets more often though and those are a sure bet every time.
