Severely reducing loot

Recommended Posts

This point has been brought up a few times, but I can't find the thread.

My latest character was recently killed by a bandit, all good. I spawned near Elecktro and within 20 minutes I had a 1911 with full ammo, A winchester, also full ammo, binoculars, knife, more food and drink than I'll ever need. Also, an Alice Pack full of extra clips, shells, food, and a flashlight.

Although it's nice, I(personally), don't think it should be that easy to find ammo and food..regardless of how big the city is or not.

With the ability to hunt for food, and refill canteens, all we would really need would be additional ammo. Right now, you can wander into a smaller town, and have enough ammo for a few days if need be.

You have this thread, and then you have fifty threads complaining about how people need to "nerf the NVG bandits" with CZs who camp the shoreline and coastal cities. The reason you are well kitted is because you went into the hellhole that is Chern. Your reward is a relatively short time to get some essentials back.

But decreasing ammo is going to make this game more than impossible (unless you want to play 99% of the time like Splinter Cell). Try going to any city with your new gear and see how easy it is once you've fire a shot. I guarantee you're going to be trying to find a lot more ammo in the future.

Did you find these thing scavenging from people or from loot spawn points? I guess once you know what to look for, where, and if it hasnt already been taken, finding loot becomes easy, Im having a bit of a difficult time with it though. Not that I dont end up with full gear through some combination of events, but more often that not its a dead person giving up their things than loot spawning. I agree that it should be hard to find loot, but if you kill an entire small town's worth of zombies, and the town has 5 slugs, a can of coke and a tin can, no one is going to make much progress, and it isnt very much fun.

I think the loot is one of the things theyre going to have a really tough time getting right, who knows if that stuff can even be tracked effectively to make good choices for balance changes.

Most of the villages away from the coast have maybe 3-4 enterable buildings where loot spawns. Many do not even have that and I am fairly certain at least some have no loot at all. The reason you had so much gear so fast is because you were hanging around the two largest cities on the entire map, usually packed full of players, and therefore the most dangerous area to be. Head inland to find military-grade equipment, or to avoid encounters, and you will very rapidly find yourself starving and dehydrated because the last four villages you passed had absolutely nothing in them. The abundance of loot in the starting areas only barely makes up for the comparatively barren inland areas. If you don't gear up before moving north, you're likely to find yourself dead.

Loot is fine as it is.

With the recent update, the Loot is perfect.

Decreasing the loot would turn DayZ into a "Run away for as long as possible, eat your only rations, then wait until you starve to death wile trying to avoid Zombies."

You most likely just got a lucky spawn. Ive had it happen. Plus Cities and Military tents are the best place to find guns and ammo. Hospitals and trauma tents are good for food and medical supplies.

Cherno has all 4 of those buildings.
