Game keeps forcing me into random characters

So, i created character, joined server, died, respawned, and since then the game doesn't allow me to use the character i created.
I can select it and try to join a game, but once i spawn i am in some random character again.
What is going on? This cannot be intended.

I googled up few posts where ppl claimed they solved it by adding a "-name=<name>" command line arg, which i tried, but it makes no difference.
So, am i doing it wrong, or what gives?

I had this issue my self but i just make sure the character is actualy "dead" before logging onto the server so the char i select in the options menu is the char i get in game.

In other words, dont just hit respawn while you are still on the server. Acutaly quit the server than make sure char is selected, rejoin server and it should work.
