After each lot/bunch of these attacks  the server does not start and I see the following in the logfile

What can a person who hosts their own server at home do to combat these attacks?

Naturally, I will also email the abuse@provider.com  email for my internet service provider.

No doubt they will give me some spiel to extricate any and all responsibility for themselves

as most service providers do...

So what can I myself to combat these attacks?

My dayz server is down and offline now since even though it is running and no errors reported, I cannot see it in Dayz Spy or in the LAN tab or in the community tab no more, since this has been happening.

Any help anyone please?

Thank You

I got bad news for you.  There is literally nothing you can do.  It cost as little as 6 dollars to launch a DDOS on any IP in the world for 30 minutes.  Prices go up depending on how big of an attack you want and how long.  There are websites that off this "service".  For a home user on Cable... there simply isn't a whole lot you can do but wait till it's over.  Your ISP won't feel sorry for you in the least, I wouldn't think.  You can try to force an IP change... but that depends on your ISP.  DDOS mitigation software ain't cheap... at all.  You could use a VPN, that would mask your IP but it would also add latency to your connection, and really complicates setup.   I wish I could bring you better news.

plus if you change your ip they will know the new one anyway as soon as you start the server this is why hosted servers cost what they cost as they sort these issues for you

Thanks both THEGordonFreeman and Sy8282 for your input,

YES you are both right...
Its bad news since I love the game...

Also, I'm just curious,

Has anyone else serving dayz from home had any DDOS attacks?
Does anyone read the logfiles?
