Solopopo 330 Posted November 10, 2018 (edited) While I think there is still a good bit of work that needs to be done to DayZ, I have to admit that there is a lot that impresses me about the Beta. The audio is massively improved. I remember the days of looping ambient noise that was excessively familiar in all areas of the game. The sound changes dynamically based on where you are now. There is a lot of detail to appreciate. Certain objects in the game actually emanate sound, like bushes with noisy bugs in them. Wolf howls sound incredible, especially against a backdrop of a stormy night. I think night could actually be pretty good if they would fix the head torch, which currently isn't working exactly as it should. I've managed to survive as a fresh spawn at night. If you commit to using light sources it can actually work. Even on official servers, the duration of night is significantly reduced from what it used to be. It's not unreasonable to decide to stick it out on a server that goes dark anymore. I had a super freaky encounter with a pair of bandits that came out of no where in the dark that I won't soon forget. The melee combat feels pretty solid despite a little quirkiness. Originally I thought they had gutted the stress test melee system because an update temporarily broke it. I was relieved to see it working right the next day. The general visual improvements and additions to Chenarus add a little bit of necessary polish, which is nice. I love the zombie death animations and reactions. But perhaps my favorite aspect of the beta, aside from cars and base building of course, is the weapon handling. Damn does it feel good to lean around corners and actually see your weapon collide when it isn't positioned right. I hope they can keep up these improvements. I am happy to see things coming together. Keep it up devs! Edited November 10, 2018 by Solopopo
