You cant put the hatchet or machete on your back.

Hatchet I do not believe is in, it may be part of the craftable update, but the machete is.

not really what i was asking but thanks. I know they are both in game but i cannot equip them in the inventory slot.

I have yet to see the hatchet so I cannot confirm. Machete yes you can equip. I have one on my character and use it to kill zombies when my knife breaks.

easily have came across 25+ hatchets so far.
