Ad-man 0 Posted July 4, 2012 HelloI was herp derping around the forums for this mod, when I thought of an idea for the game. There is a huge debate over shooting on sight and a coherent issue with the game that there is no emotion when you kill someone like you would in real life, you stress out and feel guilty because your mind cant justify what it has done, and eventually you develop mental problems because of this.Then I thought, well since others life in the game is just a random thing on your screen you cannot feel for, and you cant change that, why not have a simulated penalty? I'm not sure what this penalty is yet, or how it can affect game mechanics, but I have a few ideas the character receives for "lack of concentration due too stress":1. The more murders you have, the blurrier your screen gets2. The more murders you have, the more 'unbalanced' your screen is due to heavy breathing (it moves around (slow large movements) more, so its harder to shoot)3. For a certain amount of time after a murder your heart beats will be audible, your screen will become very blurry, your screen will become very unbalanced, you can only sprint short distances, and you breathe heavily (time of these effects depends on how many previous murders you have, then after the timer it returns to the other normal penalties)Of course, the effects listed and the way it affects gameplay is unknown, so these specific penalties might not be good for this game.People who murder others need a gradually worsening penalty so they think twice before firing that shot, this makes them think "Is this kill necessary? This kill could affect me so that I may die later on because of the effects it has on me, should I?" Now granted, it wouldnt make people think twice about killing for realistic purposes, but it would defiantly decrease murders because no one wants to be put in a situation where they receive penalties that can disadvantage them later in the game and may, ultimately kill them.Thanks for taking the time to read my suggestion~Ad-man Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It's the apocalypse, you do what you can to survive, you may feel guilty, but you wouldn't become a paranoid wreck because you can justify it in your own mind. Also, the screen blurring/shaking thing to simulate guilt/nervousness, is just simplifying the game too much. There are some people that exist in real life that kill just because they don't like the look of someone, and then feel absolutely nothing after doing it. I do agree on one thing, however. PvP for the sake of PvP. People who kill for fun. This wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't almost everyone doing it out of boredom. For this to be prevented, I think the zombies need to pose a much larger threat, once you've stocked on supplies, you don't even begin to think about them. So, let's face it, all there is to do is either roam around, loot more or look for vehicles, and even after that, you're gonna get bored. So, in conclusion, there needs to be more emphasis on the threat of zombies, they can be easily killed and avoided. Instead of just "Oh well, you've ran out of things to do, so you may as well go kill some newbies in Cherno." It should be "Okay, got my gear, I should be able to hold off some zombies but I can't really do it alone." federik21 42 Posted July 4, 2012 No.This game is getting boring because people shoots you on sight, but that's not the solution.It isn't supposed to be fun, I know it's stupid to remain prone under a tree eating and drinking until you have to go hunting a cow (that spawns in the same place) and refill water bottles in a lake trying to stay alive longer, just because if you disgracefully encounter another survivor he would shoot you just for fun.Face it: it's a FFA DEATHMACH with zombies. FlyingIrishMan 0 Posted July 4, 2012 I don't think people should be punished for killing people, a lot of the time its self defense.Instead, I think people should be rewarded for not killing people.Not sure what type of rewards the player should get, perhaps steadier hands for aiming or doesn't get hungry/thirsty as often. It is so incredibly frustrating dodging zombies, finally finding some good loot just to run into somebody who fires one shot at you and you die. It doesnt make me angry, it makes me simply sad and not want to play this game anymore. I mean, who spends 25 bucks for ARMA II and the Expansion just to ruin other peoples games? It is hard enough to get out of the way of other zombies. I don't want to be in constant fear of some douchebags who just wanna shoot people as well.Because if this goes on, I have no intentions of continueing to play this game.For these people it takes literally a second to shoot you and ruin your character you have been working on for multiple hours. federik21 42 Posted July 4, 2012 Im very surprised bandits didnt come in thi post sayng:NO.This is a playstyle blah blah blah....I think hallucination like footsteps or gunfires that lasts few minutes (if you kill too muck survivors - not bandits) would be a possible solution.At now, it is a FFA DM with zeds, as i said. Introducing some kind of punishment System just for murdersis a last resort I think.If u tried everything else and there is still shooton sight mania and teamwork only between friends. This game is supposed to be set in a post-apocalyptic world, so I understand killing because of fear, killing because of desperation, and such... but killing for the laughs is a bit unrealistic to me. It would take a psychopath to kill anyone just for the sake of it.I like your suggestions, but I will add one that I've thought about, myself, although I have also read it in the forums somewhere (sorry, random guy, for "stealing" it). Hallucinations. EDIT: Ok, so federik21 already suggested this while I was writing this wall of text :PWhen your humanity level is starting to get low, you should occasionally start to hear fake noises of zombies, as if they were far away, in random directions. As your humanity level decreases even further, you should start to hear them as if they were closer. And when it gets alarmingly low, the player should start to hear nearby footsteps, as if a survivor is running near him, and even random gunshots. Of course this sounds should not be continuous, but only heard from time to time.That way, having a low humanity level would be a real hindrance, because a player that kills for fun is not going to be able to tell fake from real. He would get scared because of nothing, and when he gets used to it, he would ignore a real survivor's footsteps, thinking it's a fake sound, and get a nasty surprise.It would be awesome to implement visual hallucinations for extreme cases as well, but I don't think that could be done.It needs to be balanced well, so this would not make the game unplayable to legit bandits. The ones that don't kill on sight (unless the other guy has seen them too), but only kill with reason (if there's such a thing as a justifiable murder, but hell, this is the apocalypse, and they're called bandits for a reason). I don't mean to end banditry, as I think it's a core part of the experience.So, in short, what do you guys think? I think the killing on sight needs to stop somehow, and I think this is a good way to make people think twice before pulling the trigger, as murders now would have a penalty, and all of this without marking you as a bandit like the skins did.
