State of the Game & 2 Day Server outage.

I have played a big role in preview games for a few years. I have talked with devs, had thing implemented and even been rewarded for such things. This post has nothing to do with me being recognized, all i want is for the game to be in a better state than it is now, id say its good but lets get it golden.

Ill start off by congratulating your team for a very clean release. I have previewed games that were horribly ridden with issues. This game however feels like a AAA completed title that has some launch issues.

Servers:

On launch you implementated roughly 600 60 population servers, that in its own was amazing. It put everyone on an even playing field, altogether removing que times and allowing people to play on small, medium & high population servers. Server hopping was less rampant as their was so many servers the likelihood of someone spawning in near you, spotting you though unloaded structures was low. Some servers would stay up for 12 hours straight, noob spawn loot was less of an issue and everyone seemed content with the game.

Now server numbers are between 150 and 350 depending on the time of day and like last night when i spotted 358 servers 90% of them were full or half full as well as DC constantly. Right now many of us prowl twitter for a glimmer of hope reguarding servers, looking for an ETA or dev comment. This is where communication from your team comes into play and gives people hope.

Content:

On PC their are way more items, more variety equals longer and more dedicated play sessions. Things like Guns, Attachments, Ghillie etc are all small thing players want to see. As of now we have two handguns, two SMGs, two ARs the SVD, Mosin and IZH 18. Where is the SKS, Shotguns, Rifles etc. Even more importantly the Ghillie suit is near impossible to make as their is only one stupidly difficult way to get netting. It does not spawn in boats and spray paint is not present to make it even worth the grind, every player i have talked to is eager to bush wookie.

All of these things currently present in the game files should have been thrown into the loot table. It would give more variety to players, more incentive to play their for happy players.

Bugs & Workarounds:

Ill start off by explaining the backpack bug. About 30 minutes ago i had 6 steaks duplicate out of my cooking pot. This put my previously 9 slot Assault pack to 13 allowing me to get up to 22 items in it. Once i fell to 9 slots with invetory management it locked me at that threshhold again. Not sure if that helps but it was definitely an oddity.

The Firemode change was another workaround my friends and i figured out, swapping from semi to full auto on all guns was a definite godsend when we discovered it. I had heard you did not know what button to bind it to, i would recommend LT & Left on the Dpad as a simple button combo to bind it to. A simple keybinding feature in the options menu would have allowed the player base to get around controller issues and is a must have for the future.

Gunlocking is a huge issue and results in uncounterable deaths. I have discover workarounds for all but one of the lockup issues. Their are currently 3 that i have seen with each able to have multiple bugs. The stuck mag is fixable most of the time. Bullets doing no damage is fixable with a relog. And the last one is unfixable to my knowledge, it happens when a freshly picked up mag is placed into an empty gun without the load animation, such as a stored gun. These gun bugs need priority after the servers are sorted out however, i would add the rest of the guns present on PC first. Doing so to test them and then updating having all guns in play. Otherwise you may have issues with guns after you add the rest requiring another update.

As this is a much smaller bug it does have a place in us snipers. The PSO-1 Scope needs to be looked at as it is sad that we go black screen when prone on your belly. So the SVD is near useless unless we hop on our back or we get a hold breath feature soon.

Tieing people up would be a nice addition but so would an emote to put your hands up but i wouldn't give it priority.

Item duping currently is annoying as well as helpful. At this time it is random but can either help you or kill your invetory by deleting stuff. I lost an SVD, AK and ammo as well as all my food yesterday due to canteens duplicating. Yet today i had one steak dupe like 6 times with no invetory loss. This usually happens during server crashes and restarts but is completely random.

XRAY on load in, this i see no easy fix for as its seems very technical. At the very least extend the load screen to fully pop you in once rendered but make your character pop in last second so if you spawn next to a hazard in load screen you don't spawn in dead.

I hope this helped and i hope to a least have a single response from a dev even if you just "Lol'ed" in my thread.

Thank you and again great job, this is truly the best GPP game to come out, and im not talking about just the game itself but how smooth it is even with a few bugs. I hope to see some stuff coming this week.

And for god sakes where's my SKS  :)

Since the launch we have roughly 450 servers for the Game Preview, this number has not changed. However, due to the current server issues we permanently have servers disappearing from the list, which need to be restarted. This is why the list appears shorter than at the beginning.

Following our engine improvements all weapons need to be re-implemented, which takes time and resources. Core gameplay elements have priority over a variety of weapons.

It will be implemented with priority, it is a necessary part of player interactions in DayZ.

The issues you've mentioned are known and the team is working on fixes. The server stability being a priority of course. Thank you a lot for taking the time to write all of this down here, we really appreciate it.

Curious what your workaround for the mag being stuck in the gun is, if you have said workarounds, simply stating them does not help anyone out. Please let us know how you were able to do this....
