Hearing footsteps

Quick question for those that know a lot more than I :D

When you hear footsteps, does that always mean that another player is nearby? Or do zombies make footstep noises as well when they cross roads and such? :huh:

They do indeed make footsteps, but won't run unless aggroed so they are fairly easy to tell from a player. Players tend to have a slow-fast-slow-fast pattern.

EDIT: ZOmbies are very noisy too, their "huuurrr" tends to drown out the sound of their step.
