So got a decent gaming laptop yesterday and DAYZ runs fine. 

 

Not played this for about a year do I need anything else I re installed last night? Any tips?

dayz will run just fine as long as steam keeps it up to date.

there is no need to run any 3rd party programs (apart from Battleye what is launched automatically) in order to play the game.
