Problems that comes from old ARMA2

Recommended Posts

Hello.

First I want to thankyou BI making magnificent games for adults like me and other people. I am 45 years old and enjoy all your titles totally since the very first Operation Flashpoint though all Armed Assault and ARMA series.

I want to put you a fragment of a video I made in real time yesterday:

This is part of a series of lonely survival online games I plane on nights in Spanish. Here is not important what you hear or understand it or not.  I was dead from a jump of an stair. Maybe 10cm.

And I know this bug a lot, because I have suffered in ARMA2 and also in first versions of ARMA3. But I didn't want to publish this post in bugs, as all of this comes from ARMA2 bad control of the character. I am playing Miscreated and even still is far in mechanics with Dayz, is so far away from management of control of the character that still Dayz has to work hard to solve this situation.

Dayz is changed to a new engine (Enfusion) and is nice.. but still we have same "walk like an oldman control". Still we cannot jump (realistic one). Still when I press keys 1,2,3,4 to change objects in my hands, I have to press the keys several times to proceed with the action. Still we are stuck in some positions and situations. Still when I stop pressing the forward key the character don't stop inmediatelly but continues with animation (I am a game animation professional, so I know a little of what I am talking). Still sometimes when prone the character stands up when crossing some doors areas, like in ARMA2. Still, like you can see in this video, the character dies if it falls 10cm. Still is a pain in the .....s, to make melee (well ARMA never hade melee combat)

I love this type of games.. I love what Bohemia interactive does.. and I will buy whatever ARMA series you sell.. but I would like to see the control system of DAYZ better. ARMA3 was a good direction to go.. Still has gaps like the jump action, totally missing (is ridicolous that I cannot jump over a car if some zombies are comming to me), but it is in the good direction.

Hope to see, now that Dayz changed engine, that you change control of the character also (please also allow joystick axis for movement as Q-E I bin my flight pedals in ARMA3). When I play the fluid of Miscreated, the house all full of furnitures and no stuck at all, or Battlefield1 (yes I know is an arcade fast game), when to climb a ladder I just go forward the ladder and the character starts to go up or down instead of pressing any button to pick up the ladder.. and I can even run faster climbing it, or if I just want to jump form the ladder, just press the jump botton.... Then I think.. "with the years BI have been developing games, why they still didn't make a decent character control option. Even you just could copy the ARMA3 one. Not the best one, but for sure better than we have today at Dayz.

Well.. hope you don't see anykind of attack here from me. I just want to play this game as it should be.

Thanks.

They have already announced, and been talking about a new player controller and new animations. The devs have addrssed these issues plenty of times, and are fully aware. They dont want to spend time and resources fixing bugs in an obsolete system that is going to be replaced anyway.

But the system is already modified isn't it? Now Dayz 0.60 is in Enfusion engine? I hope then, they modify the control system soon.

The controller system is already modified yes, but it is the same legacy controller that dayz standalone launched with. Just do a google search for new player controller dayz standalone, and you will get a ton of info. They (the developers) have been talking bout a new system for player controller for a long time now. Do a google search man :)

As far as I understand it, the core enfusion engine is in place but a lot of systems that depend on the new engine are not implemented yet. A lot of things are placeholders until the stuff is ready. The devs gave an analogy which I think is brilliant: its like trying to fix a car while it's driving down the highway. Dont take that wheel off until the new one is ready to go on lol
