4k UI scaling

Recommended Posts

Playing in 4k has some challenges that could probably be easily remedied with some minor tweaks to the UI or some UI scaling options.

I've attached a screenshot for UI reference.

1. When trying to move an item of clothing on or off the character, your mouse has to be directly over the image of the article of clothing, excluding what you would think is the alpha layer of the image. The issue in 4k is that these clothing elements are much smaller, and therefore harder to place your mouse in the correct place in order to interact with the item. Some scaling of these images and therefore the selectable area would remedy this issue.

2. The hotbar also doesn't scale to the larger resolution, which makes it hard to use, especially in full-screen windowed mode, as the windows toolbar tends to cover over half of the hotbar. This results in users dropping a lot of items on the ground when trying to add to hotbar, which may cause users to simply not use the hotbar feature at all because its no longer very easy to drop items into reliably.

To summarize, some UI elements aren't scaling very well with increased resolution, making interaction harder than it should be. If there were some sort of in-game UI scaling feature, or dynamic scaling done to fix the UI element sizes for any chosen resolution, the issues with usability in higher resolutions wouldn't be so bothersome.

Thanks,

Gille

side note: sometimes in windowed mode, the window title appears to be unicode or something.... might wanna look into that.

Thanks for the post Gille. 4K support is not official at this time, however we'll definitely make sure to check into this issue once we hit beta.
