Map, objects etc.. need advice?

Recommended Posts

So today, and for the past year i been trying to think of ways  to modify Dayz. I want to be able to explore my M3, Xcam, Apex editors and build a brand new concept map.

We know dayz has issues with 60/60 players today, tomorrow is another story. We know the netcode is damaged atm, which can change tomorrow.

SO lets speculate about dayz in the future. 100/100 server and runs rather nicely.

I want to build a new concept map with 100/100 and i want to add tons more trees that are tightly packed together.

My question to those that map build or simply experience the concept of netcode.

1. Would i be able to add a jungle like effect and get away with a lagless 100/100 by simply adding trees and the view cam maybe reduced to 500m?

2. Could i add in smaller towns, or larger towns or simply villages so called around the map with less resources then what our electro, cherno has?

What suggestions would you have for me about dayz modifications? if it all was possible.

Will the trees - jungle like effect cause more harm in 1st person or in 3rd person?

Incoming 1pp vs. 3pp flamewar. I can feel it in my bones.

Why would it be a flamewar? asking if 1st or 3rd would have issues with fps? or major lag.

Wow, jeeze, 48 hours after you mentioned 1pp and 3pp in the same thread, and it hasn't exploded in violence and crying. Is... is this what happiness feels like?

Can't see the forest for the trees?

Creating a forest isn't just about adding a bunch of trees together in a dense group.

First of all, trees compete for sunlight. In a forest, they grow straighter, taller, and only tend to produce branches and leaves near the canopy. If you design a number of trees with that in mind, (including some with bent / tilted trunks) you can drastically reduce the poly count for those trees.

Secondly, understand what the edge effect is. At the edges of forests, trees (and undergrowth) can compete for sunlight along that outside edge, so these trees tend to branch out more, and have a lot more leaves lower down, effectively enclosing the forested area from prying eyes. It is also at the edge where the undergrowth is thickest, but that quickly tapers off, as the canopy cuts out the light.

The idea was to include the tree's - bushes into the map more. So if we take dayz map as it stands, and flourish the map with tighter packed trees would that effect the fps any? lighting effects are something to consider yes.

Well, beyond redesigning trees to be more forest friendly, you could also suppress the undergrowth, similar to this: th?id=OIP.M98502ed4a5372aebba034a8e51166

if u want to make a new map forget about player counts, its unnessecary for map creation.

i strongly recommend to not use Xcam at first. make urself familiar to the existing BI coded programs like Terrain builder, Object builder, Addon builder,..... at their latest builds (using Arma3 tools). thats the only environment that we have at the moment to build a "basic" Dayz map. if u are there, then u will see how much work this is, terraforming the heightmodel, painting SAT image, painting layers for groundtextures, import groundtextures and bumpmapping it with external tools, make ur own trees with photorealistic textures in object builder,...

about houses with interior: the only available houses for now are non-enter-able and some enter-able but with no furniture. so u have to make new houses if u dont want to use the chernarus+ one (if we get access to it).

about announced Dayz modding tools:

i dont think that there will be new tools for map creation, but what we know is that we will get additional tools such as the shown CLE tool, and some more

EDIT: of course, the map size has something to do with the number of player slots :)
