Using map in-game through Steam

Recommended Posts

Greetings to all. Week-old DayZ player here, first post on forums. So far, my main method of navigation in-game was constantly alt-tabbing and looking at http://dayzdb.com/map#3.073.112 . (But I do use my watch/compass/actual map when I find such). While reading some guides here, I've seen that the worst thing to do concerning maps is to use the one from the site while alt-tabbing, because that obviously means you being away from your game for a couple of precious seconds which may result in death. I have also heard that it is possible to use this map but through steam, in-game. Problem is, I can't seem to access Steam in-game. I press Shift+Tab but nothing appears. So, my question is, how exactly do I make this work, to have the map open through the steam browser and view it in-game?

EDIT: For the suggestions so far, thanks, but I have neither any spare monitors, nor can I successfully print out a readible copy of the map.

Print it out' date=' that's what I did, much easier!

Forgot to mention, yes, that was my first action that I took. I tried printing it out on A4 paper, but it came out like 1/4th of the page. It was extremely small and I could barely read the names of towns etc. Tried multiple times playing around with paint/word cropping and resizing but to no avail.

Don't really see why you'd need one in the first place, that's just cheating in my book. :p

We found a map in game and that was indeed helpful, but even without it's not that hard to navigate once you have the basics down.

Generally, it is cheating, but a more subtle form of cheating. I'm mainly using it to see where/what loot I can generally find. but come to think of it, I've almost memorized all the different buildings and loot defined for them, aswell as the Southern-most part of the map. I think I should be able to keep going even without it. Thanks for the replies guys, I guess I really don't need fancy maps that much!

I printed it on an A3 printer in work, it's usable like that. You could chop it into 4 corners and print on four pieces then stick together.

It's not cheating if you've got an in game map anyway! When I die I may try and navigate without it until I find an in game one.

it must be something to do with a certain options setting.

i have the steam verison of arma combined ops and steam overlay works fine for map googling purposes.

try disabling some settings in the video options to see which one could be affecting steam overlay working.

Well this is a completely useless thread. Off to searching for the actual answer.

If you are using DayZCommander then make sure the "launch using steam" option is ticked.

Locking this thread though as it's 7 months old, probably a contributing factor as to why it's useless now and didn't need bumping.
