and i was getting shot at from behind by some random dude he missed 3 shots, i ran up on him and killed him before he was able to get his pistol out... so does this make me a bandit now....

It depends on your initial humanity level, and on his humanity level. Did the kill come up as a 'murder' or 'bandit killed', if it's a bandit kill then you have nothing to worry about, if it's a murder than you will have lower humanity although it will recover.

well it was a murder... but he shot first with the intent to kill he was like 10 feet behind me then i heard 3 sniper shots bounce off the trees next too me, i mean what else is there too do? try and ask if he is friendly?:p

This is why the bandit skin was removed -- killing in self-defence is considered murder, so good players would end up being branded as bandits after they'd been attacked a few times.

No, you defend yourself.

In an older version, you would end up being put in a bandit costume... but this doesn't happen any more.

with a sniper pointing at my back might as well stand still i think calling him names would work, i just remember when i found where he was at and just the way he moved he knew death was coming
