Been watching videos on youtube of dayz for a week or so. I finally bought it now and am downloading it via steam.

I plan on being a friendly player and exploring as much as possible. Gonna try to build a car too haha!

looking for friendly players/clans/etc. that can help a newbie and I'll return the help once I learn the ropes.

Also, any tips on how to survive longer would be greatly welcomed!

Avoid those MilitaryCamps aslong as you're on your own.

Oh and just for the Record, there aren't much friendly players left, most of em got consumed by hatred and just shoot on sight.

Get a gun then go north.. But until the gun part go to cherno or elektro. Firestations in elektro, military tents in cherno. :D

Yeah I've found living in the woods up north, drinking pond water and eating cattle has given me a good run. It's all about how you play, I'm quite cautious (see paranoid) and I'm about maybe 30 days now?

Good plan! It's a great mod and there is much exploring to do and adventures to experience.

Some advise: know that there are people who will shoot you on sight (I'm not one of them). Please don't be dissapointed when it suddenly happens and then turn to the *dark side*, like many others have done. Keep true to your own morals and standards.

Yeah same here, I've been playing it for a few days now. I've only died three times though and my current character is coming up on 7 hours in-game. I'm friendly, I wont shoot on sight, but if people get aggressive I will pacify the situation. I'm not like my brother, I don't start a large bandit gang and go hunting down innocent players. o.o

I advise not to go close to others unless you're sure they won't harm you, like if they just spawned or are helping others they meet. Though that might be a trick to kill them and take their stuff... Just get some friends to play with you, best option.

I've met 2 friendlies on my current adventure, one I saved at a barn near Cherno that was being chased (axes seem to be better than shotguns, at least in that case :P ), and another in Elektro.

It was upsetting though that I let two people die in Prigorodky while coming south for some minor city gear. I just sat in the tree line and watched as they were assaulted by 10 infected... I only had 3 rounds in my shotgun and there were even more of them on the other side of town. It was either hide and wait or try to help and die. Those choices are really hard to make, I basically froze as I watched the guys legs get broken as he tried escaping. He then tried crawling for dear life as they ripped into him... D: The other guy tried fighting off a couple of infected on the other side of town with a pistol but got quickly over run.

Slightly off topic I know... Other than that, great game and I hope we don't have a run in with each other that turns violent. xD

This is the most frustrating game i have ever had the pleasure of playing.

I keep finding buildings i can't go in, Zombies everywhere,and every person i have met shoots me!

I don't understand why anyone would shoot an unarmed noob but it happens a LOT !

hopefully as i learn the game my enjoyment of it will grow but right now i think it has a long way to go.

i wish we started with an axe or something damn.

I was a friendly player, still might be under the proper circumstances but after gathering up a ton of loot and being killed by a guy with an axe who said he was friendly the hatred has become to consume me.
