Hotkey to unequip items in hands

Can we please have the ability to set a hotkey to auto unequip your hands?

 

This would save so much time as opposed to hitting tab, clicking the red x, and then hitting tab again.

hit the same button you used to equip it. i.e. if 1 is your axe button, hitting 1 will put it back again.

 

If that's too much for you then I don't know.

I think he means that for items that are not in hotbar too. Like you drag let's say a flare from your inv to hands and then want to unequip it but it's not in your hotbar.

yep. I just feel like the key assignments are complicated enough already without adding more

Or your backpack is full (or you have no backpack), and you eat something. It will stay in your hands. 

 

Key assignments are only as complicated as you make them. I'm just asking for an option to set this as a key assignment. It's a minute issue, but would be a useful hotkey.

it's not something i'm desperate for but also not something i have any issue with them adding to the game

Joking aside, I personally think it's fine.  There's a real danger to streamlining too many things, where actions become trivial.  If anything, I'd sorta like to see the opposite where the player is more involved in performing more actions.  That's where the tension arises imo, is when you are trying to do a process in the middle of a fight or zombies.
