Magazine Placement affecting Reload Speed

Recommended Posts

Depending on where you place your mags for your weapons, it should affect the reload speed.

For example.

Say you have a UK Tac Vest on, and a Hunting Backpack.

You have one mag in your vest, and one in your backpack. In real life, realistically, it would be quicker for you to simply pull the mag out of the vest, and bam, slap it into your gun. Meanwhile, you would have to realistically have your backpack in front of you in order to find the mag, which takes more time.

People usually just use the tac vests for more storage space of anything really (in game). This would add a bit more realism to the game, by making players actually THINK about where they are putting their ammo, and using storage space both more effectively and realistically. It SHOULD take more time to get ammo out of your backpack then it would your tactical vest, which is designed with ease of access for ammunition and other misc military gear.

PS, I know I used realistically alot, just roll with it :P.

Agreed. The same should apply to object ts placed within your inventory (i.e. handguns, weapons in your backpack, water bottles, binoculars, etc.).

Agreed. I already juggle my inventory around so that things are in 'natural' places i.e. I keep a spare mag for any gun I use in my jacket or vest (once I have one). Most of the stuff in my backpack is stuff I'd normally only take out when I'm in a safe spot, such as food or tools.

Maybe a bit on the OCD side but I find it more aesthetically pleasing than just piling junk into open slots as you find it.

Exactly.  This whole looting while on the run and having stuff magically go into your inventory is very mediocre.  There needs to be animations that show us actually reaching for objects and placing them into the desired location.  ie backpack, vest, pants etc...

Alternatively, keep everything in your inventory 'closed' until you need something. Then you click to open your backpack, for instance, and a short timer runs according to what it is your opening. 'Opening' your jacket or your vest would take maybe a second or two, but the backpack should take a little longer, maybe in the space of 5-7 seconds. Furthermore, opening a huge backpack would require you to stand still, so no more running around while you organize your entire inventory. Also, layering would affect this timer as well. Say you are wearing a high-cap vest over a hunting jacket. Taking something from the jacket would take a little longer since you have the vest sitting in the way a bit.

This removes the need for more animations, which I believe take some of time to code properly. A timer would be a much simpler fix... right?

But but mah 3pp immersion.   I think it's all about the animation which is what made the Arma games what they are, besides the tactical military similator.  I personally would prefer animations over a silly timer bar.

Hello there

Im all for the llocation of kit being an important part of the experience.

I raved at Dean back in the early days for hours and hours about how he *had* to reinvent the old inventory system that is often used, it's so 1990's in concept.

Bag tetris is so "Dungeon Master"

Im with sacha on this. Yah, id like this down the road, but, Id prefer the admins work on the actual major features in the game, rather than a animation that could be used with a 5 second placeholder.
