hazzwold 4 Posted July 2, 2015 There are two ways I can imagine world containers right nowOne, they have for example a fridge, you can open its door, it physically opens, inside is a tin of beans, placed inside it the same way items are placed in wrecked cars. That would make wrecked cars world containers in that sense yes? Where is the distinction drawn between the two. Two, they have a fridge, you interact with it like you would a backpack on the ground, it says it has beans inside it but only because you interacted with it and saw them in the GUI. What is the benefit of one way or the other? If it is option one, why is world containers a specific goal, can't they just have animated cupboards and fridges like they do for doors on wrecked cars and spawn the loot inside them like they do anywhere else?Wouldn't option two be a little redundant without a visual cue of having animated objects? like, going into a house, all cupboards open and empty, obviously looted. Can someone help me understand the concept? Do we know which way the devs have gone with this?
Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted July 2, 2015 Recent footage from DayZ TV reveal that the first container has already made it into the Experimental Branch. This particular model has some history behind. It's called "Minsk Refrigerator" and was first introduced back in 2012. While it's still uncertain when or whether additional models are introduced, chances are that they're probably gonna take a while. They are still not configured within the central loot economy, lack proper placement within the structures and also most likely lack persistnce. As you may have already noticed it uses the traditional inventory system, shared by the rest of containers. From breachable locked containers to working furniture and home appliances, the possibilities are endless! One thing is for certain,If the dev team utilizes them correctly, they will enhance gameplay greatly.
☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted July 2, 2015 Containers will be tied to persistence, therefore any player interaction would set the despawn clock back and it would be considered out of the conventional loot table until that time expires.
doctajones 123 Posted July 4, 2015 World containers (barrels, specifically) are definitely in experimental branch right now. From my personal interactions with them, they are simply empty and existing. You can store items in them and move them, but you can only move them when they are empty. I'd imagine the goal is to have certain containers (like refrigerators as mentioned above) hold items upon discovery. I also think it would be cool to have cupboards open for food, lockers for clothes / weapons, etc as it would add to the immersion, rather than having shit just randomly scattered across the floor. It would make sense that some things would be left on the ground in haste, but surely things would still be left in their natural receptacles.
